Up to now,I've been to Shanghai for more than 2yrs. But in China,It has been 20yrs. [/quote]Don't be surprised!because I am a 27 chinese girl here(I've been studied in Canada and Paris for totally 5yrs,so I said that I has been to China for 20yrs^^). As you know,I am going to hold the expat-moms meeting regularly each week which is including the topic of "living in shanghai","kids actitivies","family day " and "personal development in different culture,"etc.
Therefore,I've been met many expat-moms.Most of moms are usually busy with family daily life .They have little oppitunities to make friends and even get to know local commuinties. So as a chinese girl who aslo well know about western culture,I would like organize serial expat-moms and families meettings. From the meeting, you will get the info. what you want. you will have a regular chance to exchange languages and aslo to know "what China is".
I hope that it will make you guys have a great life in Shanghai.

So far, how many expat-moms have you met and "recruited" to form a group? When are you holding your first meeting? I will definitely keep in touch with you before I go to Shanghai. There are many questions in my minds that I need to sort out before asking for your advise from your 20 years "experiences" in china.
Also, which city of Canada did you study? I am from Canada as well.

Dear Jayhawks:

Unfortunately, there are no best or better international schools in Shanghai. I recommend you to choose the suitable school which is accord with your original background or national language.
The majority of the schools are located in the expatriate suburbs of Hongqiao and Pudong, and school buses transport children from throughout the city to school. International schools are extremely expensive in Shanghai but since local schools are all taught in Chiense, it is the only option for most expatriates. Some do choose to send their children to local schools, but only a select few are open to foreigners, and they are generally placed together in a `foreigner's class'.

Thanks for all the information provided. I will definitely seek your advice when my departure date comes closer.
Hope the heatwave in Shanghai will be over soon. Have a great weekend.
I heard a lot about Vancouver. The last time I visited there was in 1987. Wow... how time has flied. It was beautiful especially in the summer and went to Whistler for ski during the winter.
