They are around... just not as many percentage-wise.
Volunteer groups, restaurants, bars, clubs, sports, through friends... pretty much the usual places but just not as concentrated. |

Seriously, I'm taken , in my 20's, but I've met many single, young expat women...
Not everyone in Shanghai is an expat tiger, there's travellers who stayed, students, blah blah blah
Places (and it doesn't matter where you are in the world...)
Sports (Rockclimbing, Disc, Basketball, etc)
Drinks (ShanghaiExpat events, Chamber of Commerce evenings)
Pubs (O'Malleys, British Bulldog, etc)
Open your eyes. There's heaps of single women around.

Why do you want to meet western girls?
How long have you been in Shanghai? (if you are)
At the beginning, I was not used to asian appearance, and every western girl was pretty for me, just because western.
But it was just because for so many years of my life I used to live with western people.
Now, after 9 month here (so not much) I'm both used to western and asian phisical persons,
And I like asian girl MUCH more: expecially Singapour, Philippines, Thai
They are wonderful, they don't have the tipical high nose of the western, that as soon as they are not ugly (does not need to be beautiful) they believe thay are the only reason because life deserves to be lived.
The normally don't tell you stupid things like "we are friends" and so on...
Forget the westerns, and enjoy SH |

Now I have to finally ask this. I've been here several months and have been killing myself on trying to figure this out.
Why are expats so freaking huge in this city?! Seriously, I see more 6'4+ men (and lots of women) than I see back home in the US. Is it that tall caucasions are attracted to the china lifestyle or have i been disillusioned by the contrast to the typical chinese height? Perhaps euros and australians, etc are taller than americans?
And, to boot (no pun intended), why does 95% of the caucasion womens' rear ends appear extra large or of the tree-hugger variety? I seriously struggle to find an outstanding foreigner girl here (not that i'm solely focusing on hot foreigners).
Please forgive any generalizations... I am white, very tall, and have enough weight to call myself large, and have (unfortunately) hooked up with women with larger than preferred rear ends. |

I live in Asia since 10 years ago. (Japan, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand and now China) Why do I want to meet a western girl? Because with her I can talk, I can go to a bar and drink only, I can go to dance even like "dirty dance" and there is no need to end the night in my bed. She can be really my friend. What's wrong with that!!!
Unfortunately, all the asian girls I went out with, some way or another slept with me (not only slept)...................

who said anything about western or asian? mantis.killer was looking for Expat women... it might not be a race thing ( I hope not), but rather its easier to relate to people of your own experience.
itaye - you've got a closed mind but in the other direction - there's beautiful people wherever you go.
Stalker - the height thing - well, my theory is that taller people get noticed more in all aspects of life (deservingly or not), and if a foreign position becomes available, they're foremost in management's mind.

oh yeah, australian's are taller due to vegemite, and the euro's becasuse of nutella. 
I thought the north americans are just as tall, but there much more heavy set for some reason (buff heavy or flabby heavy).

I guess lots of tall expats you've seen are in managerial positions.
HR departements usually choose taller people to be managers over shorter people with equal or superior competence in view of mammoth theory. Cos they are blind and haven't got a clue.
