I don't think there are any good guitar shops close to Gubei, but there is a street downtown called jinling Lu that runs parallel north of huaihai lu that is full of music shops and has many guitar shops.

Is there a decent shop in town? I went out looking for guitars a while ago and visited all (or at least most) of these shops. None of the guitars were setup well. They were all totally out of tune, and had strings that were at least 87 years old. Many of the guitars were also totally screwed. Warped necks, cracks, etc. I also went to parsons music over on fenyang lu. This shop was also total crap.

All in all they sucked.

Just to clarify what I think a decent guitar shop is:

- Has guitars that are not broken.
- Has guitars with somewhat new strings (ie: they don't feel like rusty wires).
- The guitars are tuned daily by the staff.
- The guitars are setup at least semi-well. I don't want 2" of clearance between the strings and the fretboard. I also don't want the strings to be ON the fretboard either.

Regards, Matthew

My boyfriend bought his guitar froma decent shop on that street, I don't remember (neither does he!) the cross street it was near, think it might have been close to henan road. But the shop was on the south side, fairly big and only sold guitars, had a separate room in it for checking the guitar out I think.

Sounds like you are talking about parsons. Fairly near XiangYang market?

Ok. Anyway, when I came back after my trip home I brought over one of my guitars & a pod. Woo! I have no amp here, so I won't annoy the neighbours (except maybe with foot stomping!)

Thanks for the comments, I think we'll try Jinling Lu this weekend.
