| Post subject: Breastfeeding pump/supplies |
I have a 3 week old baby and I need to pump. Does anyone know where to buy an electric breast pump like MEDELA in Shanghai? I have an AVENT pump but pumping hurts my hands. Any hints would be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much (seinaye at gmail.com). |

I bought a Nuk electric and a Nuk hand pump at Les Enphants in the Carrefour building in Gubei. Les Enphants are all over the place so you shouldn't have any trouble. I wound-up using the hand pump because the electric one HURT. The hand pump doesn't require you to do that much so doesn't hurt your hand (or anything else for that matter) |

As of a year ago, only the Medela mini-electric is available in Shanghai. I saw it at Isetan. I even contacted the Medela distributors in China and they confirmed that the Pump in Style was not for sale in China. If you will be pumping daily for a long period of time, I would recommend the Pump in Style.
You can buy the Medela Pump in Style for HK$3000+ at Bumps to Babes in Hong Kong. I ended up ordering mine online from a Canadian site for about US$125 and used a voltage converter.
Using the Avent pump does get easier. I have used it on business trips instead of dragging along the huge electric thing. It just takes time for your body to get used to pumping.
Gerber breastmilk storage bags can be ordered through baby item catalogs at about RMB 52 for 25 (similar price to the US). I can check out the details if you need them The secretaries at my office all have those catalogs...
Feel free to PM me with any questions about pumping! |

| Post subject: Breastfeeding supplies - where to buy? |
Hi, I would like to stock up on some breastfeeding supplies like storage bags, bottles, and lanolin creams. Do you know of any stores in Shanghai (either Puxi or Pudong) that would sell them? I know Nextage across from Times Squre in Pudong has a section for that. Are there any stores which would have more US brands like Medela, Lansinoh? Any such stores here?
Does the local LLL sells things like that?
Thank you in advance!!

Hey there...honestly, the best place for them would be the La Leche League...but you can find some mendela pumps at City Plaza at Jing An..and also some stores at The Grand Gateway 3rd Floor.. But I have not seen Lansinoh, but I could be wrong tho. |

I thought Medela was Swiss... I got my electric Medela pump at "Les Enphants" at Gubei Carrefour. Storage bags were really difficult to find 2 years ago though. I bought them in a little store in Ruijin Er Lu/Jian Guo Lu (but then they stopped having them); then I found some at Grand Gateway (Avent, but they were not OK - they were not sealed so they were not sterile). I got some Lanolin imported from HongKong. |

speaking of breastfeeding supplies - we are leaving shanghai on wed but if anyone is looking for a good avent steam sterilizer ( not the microwave one) and/or electric medella breast pump we can still unpack ours if someone cares to make a reasonible offer... (will save us mucking around with voltage converters in canada...) pics and descriptions avail on http://www.flickr.com/photos/gabe-kris/sets/72157594533613859/
cheers
