Post subject: New in Shanghai and wondering to find good Indonesian Food

Hi, I'm new in Shanghai and would like to to find out good place to have indonesian/singaporean food.
I live around the xujiahui area.
Any advice will be helpful!.

Not near Xujiahui 'fastvx' but I have tried Lagun Sari in Pudong for Indonesian food once and it seemed reasonably authentic based on my experience living in Indonesia for 3 1/2 years.

i am also craving for indo, malay and spore food...!
any other indo restaurants near XJH or Xinzhuang area? gosh all these talk abt eating is making me hungry now... Smile

There is a new Singapore Food restaurant known as "Prima Taste" on level 3 of Metro in XJH.
The same "Prima Taste" from Singapore.

Where in Indo did you live? I spent four wonderful months in Sumatra, three of them in Maninjau. I miss the real food of Indonesia - Padang food! Nobody here seems to make real rendang or ayam goreng. What did you have at Lagun Sari?

I tried beef rendang in Lagun sari, taste quite authentic, price around 50rmb/portion. First time open other food seems nice, but some other time the taste not as authentic as before. I heard they have to import the spices and the chef is from indo. Their tofu egg not really good according to my taste, too sweet. Never try Bali Laguna, but heard it's more expensive and better quality than Lagun Sari.

I cannot find any Malay food but if anyone know,kindly let me know Smile

Crossroad is a singaporean resto, taste ok.

@anthony, I love Prima Taste, always bought their package meesiam spices when i travel to singapore. Do they sell it there? Do you have specific address in XJH? THanks in advance

I've tried Bali Laguna. The lamb rendang and Kangkung Belacan is quite good but Ayam Bakar is not very authentic indonesian.

The drinks is terrible though. If the chef is an indonesian chef, he should know that Es Teler consists of coconut, avocado and jack fruit..not watermelon and pineapple ha...ha...Es cendol even worst he..he...

But overall, the food and ambiance is a nice experience.Very romantic at night and feel like at home Smile

lilstar... the address would be Metro City in Xu Jia Hui. It is the large pink building with the glass ball. You can't miss it. Simply tell any taxi to take you to Xu Jia Hui (Mei Lo Chang... or something like that... is the name of Metro City in Mandarin). Corner of Zhao Jia Bang Road and Cao Xi Bei Road, but you don't need to say that. Or take the metro to XJH and exit through number 10. It will put you right there.

Each dishes is in average of RMB 60 and up. Drinks mostly is Rmb 45. So u might spend rmb 150/person.

There's a decent Singaporean restaurant at Zun Yi Lu Parkson on the 6th (?) floor. It has a Singaporean chef (serious!) and the food is as good as a zhi char that we've found so far. Went there last weekend for Seafood Hor Fan (LOVELY!), cereal prawns (not soggy like crossroad's), tie ban tofu (sedap!). The only price I remember is RMB48 for the cereal prawns. Do ask for the sambal chilli - the chef puts a lot of balacan so it smells really good! Smile

I'm sick of Crossroads. The branch in Tongren Lu is crap, not nearly as good as the one on Nanjing that closed.

I think there is an Indonesian restaurant in Taikang Lu. It's next to an Indonesian gift shop. Name is Hari Rabu or something like that. I tried to find it online but couldn't find any details.

I saw pictures of chilli crab...or something crab-like...not sure...its the other parkson, along Zun Yi Lu. Just tell the cabbie Zun Yi Lu Bai Shen...they should know...I'm trying to get there this weekend too for makan...will post the name/address if I remember to get a card.

hi everyone. i was so hungry just before noon and i came across this thread, i went to an early lunch right away! i went to Banana Leaf in Raffles City or (Plaza?) and had a sumptous lunch Smile

because the portioning is larger than my stomach can take. taste: average but better than some wanna-be that i've tried before, not to mention names, if not their sales would decline more... well, thanks for all the info at the above, i will try it over the weekends!

Wow, so apparently there are plenty of indonesian/Singaporean restaurant in Shanghai area.

I wouldn't recommend Banana Leaf myself. Had a couple of really bad meals there.

I rate Crossroads more highly (though with Crossroads there is no consistency between the different branches).

I agree about Frankie's. The food is not always consitstent but the taste is usually quite nice and authentic. The Sambal Kangkong and carrot cake are always good choices. The Laksa is very inconsistent.

Just saw on Shanghai Daily today that Mayfair hotel is having a Malaysian All-you-can-eat buffet for RMB198 every Fri, Sat and Sun this month. The chef is apparently from KL...anyone going to give it a go? I'm thinking its pretty expensive so unless its an awesome spread...

Been here for 2 months (malaysian) and have yet to come across any good nasi lemak in Shanghai. Would appreciate if someone can point to a good place to eat nasi lemak.. The couple of places I have tried (due to utmost desperation!!) are lousy. Rolling Eyes
