Post subject: Car reimbursement in Shanghai

I have my own car which I have been using for business. The UK company now wants a more formal arrangement. I have tried looking on the web for info regarding fair re-imbursement in Shanghai but there is nothing I can find.

I want to cover fuel plus contribution to running costs such as servicing etc. Any ideas?

Don't know if there are any guidelines around (since individual car ownership isn't as common here as elsewhere) but perhaps you can come up with a fair per kilometer price which would cover fuel and servicing (plus general wear and tear on the vehicle). An insurance agent may be able to help with estimates. Or caluculate the monthly expenditures on gas and servicing that are company related and come up with an average that will work for an entire year. Does the company have set numbers that are in use in the UK? Maybe the fuel and servicing costs can be compared and a happy medium found. Perhaps a rental car agency would have some ideas on what the general costs of car maintenance in Shanghai runs.

All of my company cars are company owned so no reimbursement is needed. Think this is fairly common here which may make a reliable source for these estimates difficult.

Good luck with this!

My company refunds transportation expense for personal car use based on the same rate per km Taxi's would charge. But we don't have any company cars, so it's the minimum we'd have to pay if our employee didn't have a car either.
