Post subject: Concept 2 Rowing Machine: where to buy

New to Shanghai and looking to buy a Concept 2 rowing machine... Any body knows where I can buy one? Any tips on where to buy a good running machine might help as well!
Thanks

Don't know about the names, quality etc. but you can try Grand Gateway in Xujiahui in the basement.

I've been in Shanghai for about 4 months and have been on the lookout for a Concept II as well. So far no luck. None of the gyms here seem to have them either. You can buy one in H.K. and have it shipped, but the machines are expensive there, almost 2k U.S. and that's without the shipping. I've also been trolling E-Bay, but they are mostly U.S. market and selling for top $. Let me know if you find a local supplier. The answer might be to find out from the local rowing teams/clubs where they get theirs. I'll pass along any information I can uncover.

The Chinese national rowing centre is actually not far from Shanghai. It is near that water city, that starts with XU..... ???? About 30 or 40 mins from Gubei. It is a pretty top notch facility too. And you should see the size of the girls they have out there! damn, i'd love to have had them back when i was captain of Carrum rowing club.

If there are any rowers out there, i was thinking of maybe heading out there every now and then, just to keep my hand in it. I will also ask them about the concept II

Would defo be interested in getting back into the rowing. Let me know what you guys find out. Also, as much as I hate them, a decent erg is also on my wishlist-can't believe I actually said that.

I'd also be interested in going out for a row once in a while. I think I actually might have been out near the course when I tried dragon-boating on Dinshan lake. I didn't see any rowers on the water, but I'm told that's the venue. I hate ergs too, but my options for working out here in Shanghai are limited. Running outside seems incredibly unsatisfying in this pollution.

Yes, dianshan Lake and I remember some of the Dragon Boat guys (girl actually) had in mind some time ago to start some rowing... but as far as I know, it never started.

40 minutes from Gubei, that's like 1,5 hour from downtown, right... Rolling Eyes Sad

Hi there,
Seasons's Parkview Clubhouse and Vizcaya Club House do have Concept 2 for members. I'll check the source...
Any one willing to row once in a while, let's do it. I'm a sculler but a port as well. 6'4" 200 lb. 44 years old.
How do we get together? I'm willing to check that lake soon and see if we can somehow borrow a boat.

Sorry guys, I hadn't checked this thread for a while. Did anyone ever find out about any gyms that had Concept IIs or places where one could buy one? I'll talk to somone at Shanglong and get details about Dianshan lake.

Post subject: Rowing in china - in shanghai

Hello everyone,

I am living in china for a very long time, and looking for rowing and rowing partners.

I have been looking for rowing machine, but never found anything yet (i mean nothing too expensive or too unconvenient.

Instead I bought a skiff and a kayak in hangzhou (the biggest manufacturer of skiff in the world!!!), and i paddled in suzhou where i used to live for couple of years.
I am probabely the first man ever to cross suzhou on a kayak ( skiff to large do not enter the narrow canals of the city). he he
This is a great experience, and you can imagine the face of the local people...

Now i am back in shanghai. And i don't know where to store my boats. I would really find some foreigners to go out, one one the skiff one on the kayak, ....
I am not a very good rower, but i love that, i also would be happy to get some advice from experimented people...

SO just contact me: jbantoine@163.com
we try to meet on week end, and figure out where we could go paddle.
I am now looking for this "china rowing center" but still didn't found it out !

contact me.

JB, you may want to get in touch with Mat. I believe he posted something a few days ago about setting up a rowing group. Could maybe extend the logistics of it to your skiff/kayak.

Hello everyone,
If you are interested of working out by rowing or paddling you can do so by purchesing a brand new Point 65 kayak right here in shanghai. I can get them for you at the best prices. The ones in Europe or America are sold at around 20 to 25 thousand RMB (glasfiber). IŽll get you half that or less! If you are interested in touring kayaks from point 65 I can get those too at good prices. You can check out all our plastic and glasfiber

You can contact me on my chinese cell: 13621785338
Or on my e-mail: axel@point65.se

Hi,

I'll be back in Shanghai in a couple of weeks (November 20,2009). I'm an amateur rower. Not sure how good I am. Can cruise about 4-5 miles and hour for 30-60 minutes I think. I have a 24'Alden Star shell in Chicago I use in the summer. China is fall-spring for me.

I'd love to find someone to explore some rowing venues, share transportation to locations, maybe even share a boat. I also enjoy kayaking as well.

I think I'll be staying in Gubei.

I don't have my China cell yet. It was stolen in the US so have to get a new one when I get back.

Thanks for your help, advice and suggestions.
