Post subject: L visa- how long given by chinese embassy london?

Hi,

I am coming to SH next week for a couple of job interviews.
I'd like to know how long the Chinese Embassy in London are likely to give me for my L/tourist visa. I will have return flights with a 6 week stay on hold, haven't paid yet, I am trying to work out the best plan before I pay.

I know that 2 months is possible but has anyone been given 2 months lately or will I have to extend in country? I would like to avoid the hassle of extending, so if they are only likely to give one month I may go to HK instead (though it's more expensive).

I can't decide which is best to do, any advcie appreciated.

Thanks! Smile

In the UK it seems that the standard tourist visa is valid for 30 days but you can extend here in Shanghai, you have to go to the PSB in Wusong Lu, you can only renew once.

An alternative might be to stop over in HK and get a 6 month multi entry visa. If you pay extra (Last time I did it is has HK$1500) you can get one within 24 hours. Otherwise it is a 2-3 day wait, but I cannot remember the price.

You could try calling the visa section at the Chinese Embassy in London to get the facts for a UK issued visa. From my experience the visas issued in HK allow multi entry and are valid longer.
