Do you mean pilof (or pilaw)? The Uighur national dish also containing carrots if it's a good one and raisins if it's an excellent one?

The best one I aver tried in SH was in front of a mosque right after the Friday prayer. The hell I don't remember the place, but it was by bike about 15min north of Nanjing Zhong Lu.

There's no Nanjing Zhong Lu in Shanghai, but there's a mosque about a 20 minute walk north of Nanjing W Rd on Changde Lu. I'll have to go back and see if there's a restaurant nearby.

Ok, ok, ok...
I don't know the name, but I wanted to give a rough direction.
And that day I crossed the Nanjing Lu somewhere in the middle - so I thought, that should be Nanjing Zhong Lu... But if there's no Nanjing Zhong Lu... Embarassed

Anyway it was east of Peoples Square where I crossed it.

And it was not a real restaurant - I mean a house, but just some benches and chairs beside the street just in front of the entrance. That's already 4 years ago, so I don't remember it clearly.

Before anybody asks:
"How does it come you don't know that there's no NJ ZHONG Lu, after >4 years in SH?"
That time I was on a visit and I just moved to SH 2 monthes ago.
Not so familiar with the street names, yet...

Yip, Carol.
Still trying to find my way around...

But for Uighur Food I can also recomment one in Shanxi Nan (???) Lu, just a few metres south of Yang'an Lu. The food is good and also popular among Uighurs and the Xinjiang-Style "Modern-Talking"-Central-Asia-Pop makes u feel like beeing somewhere in the middle of the huge Eurasian continent...

I say: You can go to an Italian Restaurant in SH, but it's just an Italian style Restaurant in SH.
You can go to an American Steak Restaurant in SH, but it's just a Steak House in SH. But if you go to a real Xinjiang Place you feel like staying in the Near/Middle East. At most for the 90 minutes of your dinner...

Domm, you mean the taste is not real Italian or American taste?? For me,I don't really care about Italian food,American food coz the chinese food,my own country's food already takes a long time to try all over. And every cousin is very good.
I love xin jiang food because I love lamb. And I like eating with my fingers.Very cool. Smile

No Carol, I meant more the atmosphere. In an italian Restaurant in SH you still have the feeling to be in SH, for example. But if you go to a good Uighur Restaurant you immediately feel like being in a different part of the world.

Concerning fingers: When I was in Xinjiang I did not see anybody using his/her fingers. But I know that even Uighurs say it is their way to eat, although they also use chopsticks when we're out together...
