ok.
I had 1/2 Pepperoni and 1/2 BBQ feast. For some reason it had corn on it, when firstly that was not on the menu, secondly, wtf is corn doing on a pizza? Like Pinepple, that should never be on a pizza.
The next thing i noticed is like it seems to have been cut up by Edward Scissorhands. jus random slicings that in no way resembled how a pizza should be cut up. Some pieces were square, some triangular, some rectangular. A little strange.
The base. VERY doughy. Like it wasn't cured fully.
Firstly, the pepperoni side. a little too much sauce and too little peperonni for me, but it was actually ok. I like the one from Una's best, but this was fine, although you could taste the dough too much. Also, i like to fold my slices in 1/2, and with the hard dough, and strange shaped pieces, this was difficult to do. I give it 5-1/2 out of 10, but for Shanghai, that is not a bad result.
Next the BBQ Feast plus corn. It looks a little strange, but it looks tasty none the less. Same problem with the dough and strange shapes, and that corn bothers me. But it was ok. A little bland, but the BBQ chicken was good, as was the real bacon pieces. The cheese was a little tasteless, and not the normal stringy mozzeralla you would expect. I give this 6/10, which again, is not a bad result for this town.
All in all, ok, but probably, just like Taco Popo, is at it's best at 3am in the morning after a hard night out. |

RaoulDuke, have you been able to use your new pizza oven yet? I am curious as to how well it works and if it was worth buying. Thank you |

Ok... about 5 pizzas later from Pizza Italia (i know i know... sounds overkill... but so far, they havent dissapoint with delivery time 40 mins and price-wise 12" from RMB50... very worthy based on competition comparison).... overall good.... note:- only order the thin pizzas (normal pizza crust is not well done)

I dont think the first pictures above are pizzas, except the last one. And "thin crust" is the normal one. Pizza Italian sucks and is certainly nothing like Italy. Perhaps they have an Italian shareholder, thats it. |

@Kanasai:
No they do not deliver (at least I don't think so) and their seciality is Italian food.
They do not only have pizza but a lot of other Italian dishes.
It is really hard to find if you don't know it. Corner of Maoming Lu/Huaihai Lu, on the north side of huaihai lu you have to walk gen east and take the first entrance to the left to what looks like a real ugly backyard. (you can already see a sign) Go straight on and you will find the entrance which leeds you to the first floor and there you are! (confused? sorry) |

All of them are pizzas.... unless you want to redefine the meaning of 'pizza'?
Anyway, there are 3 kinds of crust.... thin, normal and thick. 'Normal' is not so good.

Finally tried Una's delivery.... took 45 mins as informed. Had the american pepperoni and some pastas. Pizza was smaller than promised 12" but was good... cheesy and aromatic pepperoni.... crust is still crispy and fluffy. Simple and nice. Pastas were not too bad too. Looking forward to try more.

Anyone done the deep dish thing at CJ Chicago yet? Have heard about it and will probably try it soon. Had a good write up. Post something here if you try it.
CJ Chicago. Call 6415-1666 for delivery 24 hours a day.
My last pizza was from Hello... standard 9" in pepperoni. Some folks don't like it, but it was pretty decent considering the 14 RMB price ( with xtra cheese ). Real pepp and real cheese and a reasonable sauce. Hard to beat at that price. 800-620-2200
I had the NY style at JingAn Si and it was OK.. a little light on the sauce and topping for my taste. |

I strongly support Hello Pizza, the best price-quality ratio in town. The CEO is a nice chap too. Pity they are all in funny areas of town.
About my comment above about those pictures not being of pizza... I meant that putting strange toppings on a piece of pizza bread doesnt make it a pizza.
Surprisingly the pizza in California Pizza Kitchen (Portman Hotel) is excellent (the thin-crust ones at least) although they charge outrageous prices, add 15% service and most of their customers are Americans staying at Portman, who add an extra tip. Dumb clients but good pizza. |

yeah, yeah, yeah, italian pizza blah blah, american pizza, blah, blah, blah.
I loved the pizza in Verona, it was great. I also like the Mellow Mushroom pizza in Atlanta, Durham, and Chapel Hill.
Papa John's delivers to my house in Jin Qiao and is exactly like the pie back in the states. A bit over priced but nice to be able to get a consistent and decent quality pizza.
I had Melrose the other day and it was completely inedible.
The Pizza Inn near Nanpu Bridge in Pudong does a decent pie, not like back in the states but edible. Great BBQ wings.
Pizza Hut just like back home is way too greasy.
I look forward to going out to a place that serves some Italian style pie.
Anybody know where to get some good calzones or stromboli? |

Ok so after reading the whole thread I will try to summerise (obviously including my own pizza subjectivity) ...
Papa Johns is like Pizza Hut and therefore out.
and the most popular if you are after a thin crust are:
*That's Amore
*Jimix
*Da Marco
*Casanova
*Una
*Pizza Firenze
I live on Maoming Nan Lu, only really speak English and want to order for dinner tonight. I like thin crust and am terrified by the sound of butter being sprayed on my pizza. Which of these home delivers - please I also need their numbers?
thanks. |
