Post subject: What MOVIE did you watch lately ?

We started this thread on another forum which snowballed, so it turned into a sticky in the end.

Guidlines

Just a small remark and grade will do on how you perceived the movie, and also try and refrain from any relevent spoilers.

Should prove interesting and fun.

Ok Ill kick off with...

Munich.

Speilbergs latest true story epic based on the kidnapping and murders of the 9 Israeli atheletes at the 1972 Olympic games.

Eric Bana was tops as the leading Mossad agent, but I found this film to be gut wrenchingly disturbing in places ( think Saving Private Ryan) full of paranoia, violent, and the little touches Speilberg adds that I noticed the second time around makes a lot of sense. The only downside was that at 160mins this was a tad too long for me, but what film made by Mr Speilberg isn't?

Im certain Munich will be standing on the podium come Oscar time.

But I grade it 4.5/5 Cool

I watched Kiss Kiss Bang Bang.
Its about this thief that somehow stumbled into a job as an actor who is coached in his role by a Gay Private Detective. I find it pretty much unwatchable.
1/5
So I rewatched Breakfast Club
A great 80's movie that is often imitated and I still enjoy watching it.

Brokeback Mountain. Definitely. I watched it all by myself - bad thing, and the feeling still haunters.

The expression of love in the movie is an oriental one. You don't see a lot love scene when they are together. It's the moments, like Jack watching Ennis riding the horse away, and Ennis brokedown after Jack drived the car away, that make you feel that they REALLY loved each other.

BTW, I'm so pissed off after knowing that the movie is banned for public release in China.

Still yet to view Kiss Kiss Bang Bang and Brokeback Mountain.

Double bill last night consisting of .

Miracles.

Jackie Chans big budget 1930's blockbuster, the costumes the comedy and the fight scenes never failed to impress me, Richard NG was on form as the bumbling Police Inspector its old stuff but sometimes old is the best right?.

Great stuff.

5/5

Nochnoy Dozor AKA Nightwatch

Among normal humans live the "Others" possessing various supernatural powers. They are divided up into the forces of light and the forces of the dark, who signed a truce several centuries ago to end a devastating battle. Ever since, the forces of light govern the day while the night belongs to their dark opponents. In modern day Moscow the dark Others actually roam the night as vampires while a "Night Watch" of light forces, among them Anton, the movie's protagonist, try to control them and limit their outrage.

Wow this Russian blockbuster, had me amused, totally confused hence needing a 2nd watch I think it was that surreal for me.

Think Matrix style special FX and Characters, inc Vamipres and you get the picture.

I cannot wait for the 2nd instalment " Daywatch".

4.5/5

"Hitchhiker's guide to the Galaxy" 4/5 If you liked the books, a 4 part trilogy, then the movie does quite well. You have to like this type of humor and philosophy however. I'll watch it again, and I don't watch many movies more than once.

PTU ( Police Tactical Unit )

From Directer Johnnie To.... Beautifully shot, and cool but this is my taste of film, Suet Lam started off as the arrogent sergeant, then over the course of the story came across as an incompetant imbecile, but maybe that was the bandage on his head.

Simon Yam as cool as always, the ending was a trifle drawn out and OTT but u will see what i mean.

Soundtrack was spot on.

3.5/5

Went a bit mad yesterday.

Watched Infernal affairs 2 again and still think its the best pf the trilogy.

5/5

Shutter,

I topped off my evening with this excellent Thai Horror.

Not disimilar in style to The Ring ..this is The Ring on steroids, if you like jumpy Asian Horror with a neat twist at the end, then this is for you.

Spooky stuff.

Hostel

I had quite high expectations of this film and was let down however fans of gore may enjoy it.
The basic storyline is about 3 backpackers travelling around Europe who are told about a great hostel in Slovakia. The aforementioned hostel turns out to be a front for some rather nasty goings on. A young cast do a pretty good job but again it didn’t have what I was looking for.

2/5

The Man

Starring Samuel Jackson and Eugene Levy (aka Jim's dad). What a fantastic pairring in this movie. Absolutely hilarious. About a squeeky clean dental supplies salesmen who gets caught up in this dirty cop/weapons dealing business when he is wrongly recognized as "The man". Laughed so hard and I HARDLY EVER laugh out loud while watching movies.

Shopkeeper - the movie version of Steve Martin's novella, with Steve Martin and Claire Danes. As it is a Steve Martin movie I was expecting something on the comedy side, but it turned out to be a rather sombre and dark movie, kind of along the lines of Lost in Translation. It was good, very out of the ordinary for Steve Martin. Don't be tired when you watch it, as you are bound to fall asleep. 3.5/5

Walk the Line - the filmatisation of Johnny Cash's life. A good movie focussing on the dark side of the man in black, and primarily his relationship with June Carter. A bit on the long side, and the dvd quality was not on the best side, the audio was terrible, so very hard to rate it. I am sure the experience would have been much better in a theatre, or even just a good quality dvd. Hard to rate it, due to the bad quality of the dvd, but worth seeing

Hey,

Crazy N' The City (2005)

Hong Kong flick that focuses on 2 beat cops, one being a Rookie from the country with a plot of a sex killer on the loose. There was some LOL feelgood moments and equally some sadness thrown into the mix.

Francis Ng plays another main character Shing Wong and does an outstanding job in his playing this mentally broken down man.

Based alone on his acting, the film gets an easy 4. Again a good portrayal of mental illness that has to have an actor keeping up the balance.

Chronocals of Narnia. Slow and no where near the level of lord of the rings.
Walk The Line. A little slow and two many closeups. Director was trying to hard. But good acting.
The Professionals. Maybe the best western ever made. By western I mean cowboys.

Zathura - similar to Jumanji
Aeon Flux - crappy except for Charlize
In her shoes - drama (thought it was comedy)... yuck
Must love dogs - romance drama/light comedy ..... uninteresting actors
Doom - no-brainer action.... great for bored nights... similar to resident evil
Harry Porter and Goblet of Fire - getting worse as series progresses... trying to confuse audience (or readers) with bits here and there.

King kong - beginning and ending sucks, the middle rocks with action. I think there has been some omissions... trailer scenes are not in the actual movie.

Currently watching Final Destination 1, a decision based on the fact i watched the 3rd one this week. Its definitely a movie that they only planned on making one of, as the sequals seem to run more smoothly and go more for the horrific deaths and gore factors.

Watched Kung Fu Hustle last night(again), but that was the choice of the wife and is probably due to the fact she is in it(blink and you will miss her, I DID).

GC!!! Your wife's in Kung Fu Hustle!!! Where is she in it??? Tell tell!!

But Final Destination! GC I thought better of you!

I watched Heavenly Creatures last night with Kate Winslet (her first movie I think), haven't seen it before. It was really good, interesting to see the destructive and fantastical relationship between 2 teenage girls.

Hey,

Yes do tell all GC Smile

Double bill tonight.

Requiem for a dream

Very well written, no wonder some drug addicts went cold turkey after watching this one expect no happy endings.

4.5/5

Night of the Demons 2

90's Cheese in the style of 80's horror, laughable with the odd bit of young naked girls chucked in at every oppertunity I guess to keep the male audience interested.
