Ok, I am joining in as well. I think this was mentioned before but a lot of the problem with meeting people here is that they stay for such a short period of time and know it, so that's where a lot of "one-night stands" come in, which I am really not into. And the whole thing about guys being into Asian women, I just think it's so silly to pick a certain ethnicity or race and only go after that, because I feel like they really not into the person rather than into the idea or image they have in their head. I, personally, do not discriminate when it comes to love Wink

And by the way, I went to Window last weekend and had a horrible time, majority of girls were there for obvious reasons of going home with somebody and bunch of gross looking guys just stood there drooling over them and approaching me with just inappropriate suggestions. This is not Vegas lol "what happens here stays here" should not be a driven force for behaving like an a-hole.. btw 23 yr female Wink

I'm going to be in Shanghai for an indefinite amount of time. Came in from California. However I still want to meet people and possibly get some dating in. Still trying to find an apartment, hopefully I'll have one by the end of the week. I won't have a lot of extra time due to the nature of my work, but what spare time I have I want to try and meet new people and have some fun, potentially see the country.

Looking for friends in the meantime. And no, I'm not here for one night stands. That's not me, I'd rather gain a friend than lose one over quick sex.
Some days I'd rather say at home and watch a good movie, listen to some music or cook dinner than go out at all.

and btw 25 yr male Wink

Windows where women want to go home with somebody... mmmh... nah, the wife would kil me Smile

Asian/caucasian women just happen... you start meeting people, and before you know it there are a lot of Asian women... I don't think people seek out Asian or ignore caucasians on purpose... i have good friends with both, although i am married to an Asian. But I buy the talking and sharing argument, and my Asian wife has many western characteristics.

This is a young expat dillema, many expat males are older with children, or divorced and looking for an asian fling, many expat women are married with kids... really young expats in SH are students (short term only). The working expat group between 25-35 is out there, but spread out thin over town and time of the night. Things do get better over time though... just have to stay pro-active!

Its easy to give an example of why - I remember at the Shanghai Expat speed dating thing I was at, 5 minutes was too much time for the local girls, they ran out of things to talk about whereas with the expat ladies, I had to buy them a drink afterwards and kept chatting. I think (for some of us guys anyway Very Happy

) its about common interests and experiences as well as physical attraction and the rest of it.

Unfortunate thing is about dating expat girls (and I guess guys too) is that a lot of them are here for a short time only. I think I've got to start finding ones that are here for the longer term Very Happy

Have not dated expat girls, have not dated local girls, so there is basically no reason for me to say that I am not interested in local girls, but the thing is, I do not want to waste my time and I see no future with local girls as I will be leaving China anyway. And def not planning to bring along my 'local gf' to where ever I am going to after SH.

Have met a HK girl, also from Holland, she is fantastic.

Last time I checked, I am straight, I don't mind going out for beers with a dude, I mean, it's always fun to meet more people. Plus, I have a gf, and I just want to have a good time in Shanghai. Anyways, I am leaving shanghai today, and don't know when I will be back again... But next time I come back, i will know that you are actually a girl.

The 25-35 Expat are here! -- But we have so limited time. Between work, travel for work, travel back to our own country during holidays (Chinese Holidays and Christmas). We also work so hard and long hours in China compared to when we were back home. Between work and go to the gym after work - there is really no time to meet other expats.

There should be a single biligual ready to mingle club for beautiful/handsome hot professional Expat in SHanghai! wink2

Agree. Can't make plans to meet up with friends until after 8:30 after work, gym, shower all that jazz. Dinner's not till 9pm. Time is what we make of it however... just takes more effort to meet new people, but with some effort and perseverance, it ain't impossible.

RXG is right. A lot of us are always traveling back and forth. Sometimes to Motherland, but other times to SE Asia or elsewhere. We usu. come back around the same time though.

I change my schedule to accomodate my wife and friends as well... gym is now largely during lunch and in the weekend... after 5 years out of home i learned socializing is key for us lonely expats Smile

But more effort and pro-activity is needed in big town as SH... HK is actually pretty small compared to SH... I have turned to the more tested meeting grounds such as national comunities and sport clubs.

BTW 16 March is the next EU Chamber meeting, was a blast in Christmas and Summer... could have a bg SHexpat meet there with cheap drinks and food!

Brilliant!!! But who would judge who's in en out?? What standard would apply in sorting the beautiful en handsome from the NOT?? Who knows you and I would be eliminated during the process as well??? Then it's not gonna be so brilliant... heheheee...

en another thing, can we have a standard IQ included?? or maybe some psycho test to stardardize the candidates??? Wink
