North Country - expected more of this, but was just an extension of the known events/outcome (human drama) ... unsatisfying. |

Hey,
White Dragon.
Francis Ng & Cecilia Cheung team up in this fanatsy swordplay saga equipped with wire work and all. Not to be taken seriously.
3/5
A Tale of Two Sisters
If you like Korean phsycological Horrors then this would be up your street with some beautiful scenary, and quirky camera angles if not sometimes confusing plot.

Re Narnia
LOTR really raised the bar in terms of what we all expect from fantasty films.
Narnia is clearly looking to ride the wave, maybe even challenge LOTR
It came a very poor second.
Could do better |

The Weather Man - Cage's closest movie to this is probably Trapped In Paradise. Dark comedy about a father trying to do right in a strained relationship. It's not something you watch over and over again but it is funny and worthwhile. Best use of swear words in a movie since The Big Lebowski.
The Ringer - Jackass Johnny Noxville poses as a handicapped person to rig the special olympics. This is one to watch if you are seriously out of choices. |

Dungeons and dragons 2 - Made for tv but fun.
Great raid - decent war movie, inspired by true events. Jogs my anti-japanese fire. |

Hey,
Hero Of The Beggars
Another remastered DVD from Hong Kong staring the ever comical Michael Hui. Not one of his best compared to the likes of Chicken & Duck talk, The Magic Touch or indeed the heartfelt warm comedy Always on my mind. But still waorth a watch if you are a fan
However as the story rolled on I found myself LOL a few times especially the mobile phones in the restraunt scene, typically Hui's subtle touches throughtout along with Sandra Ng performance made it an enjoyable experience.

Saw Good Night and Good Luck last night the new George Clooney directed film about the McCarthey (sp) communist witch hunts. Pretty interesting film including some original footage from some of the trials. Really good cast, well acted, well directed - shot quite choppy like a documentary - oh and yeah it's in black and white. It's fairly slow paced and theirs not much real actiongoing on but it was quite incredible to see what happened then. Did fuel my anti-americanism somewhat though! |

40 year old virgin - pretty funny if you like silly sex comedies (something about mary style), although i would say it is a bit better than the usual teen comedies |

Meanderer: Narnia was almost identical to the book. They weren't trying to make LOTR. LOTR movies were far inferior to the books. LOTR is a story written for adults and the Narnia series were written for kids, using Christian themes in a fantasy-like setting. |

Hey,
The Matador
A chance encounter between a travelling salesman and a lonely hitman triggers a strangely profound relationship which provokes each to act in ways neither would have imagined possible. Fate steps in to form a friendship between two men from irreconcilable worlds that will alter the lives of both forever.
Id like to say Pierce Brosnan was superb in this as the washed up chain smoking drunk, womanising assassin.
Never a dull moment and a touching story with some great twists.
Best role from Ive seen from Brosnan so far IMO and a suprisingly good pairing with Greg Kinnear

Shinobi
A ninjia film based on a story by a popular Japanese manga master. Two ninja clans with 400 years of war history lived deep in the mountains and were forbidden to take on each other by order of the Lord of the Lords until the ban is lifted for them to destroy each other when their superhuman skills were deemed too threatening. It is a love story of a granddaughter and a son from opposing clans falling in love and having to decide between love and family. Beautifully shot and some fantastic fighting scenes.
4/5 if you are a Japanese anime fan

Yeah... Shinobi was nice. Didn't know Japanese movies could produce such action/effects. With this, it could open up a whole new shebang of comic/anime movies just like Marvel.... it will make a killing.
Garden State - not for restless viewers... slow moving.
Syriana - no big deal. Li'l confusing and slow... had to tolerate till passed half of the movie. |

Hey,
Mr Socrates.
Korean Street thug turns cop affair, after a promising start with some gritty action and the amusing and brutal training regime he is put through, the pace slows down somewhat for the latter half.
Not a bad effort.

Fear and Trembling French (or maybe Beligian) film about a Belgian girl who goes to work in a Japanese corporation and the trouble she encounters. Very small film, but sweet and interesting too. |

Memoirs of a Geisha
(or as my DVD case put it Memorie of a Geisha)
A young girl grows up to become a Geisha. She falls in love along the way.
Disjointed. It feels like a film made from a book where too much had to be edited out to make it fit into a film. With the addition of wooden acting it makes it difficult to empathise with any of the characters, particularly the lead.

'The Weatherman' with Nicolas Cage - good acting by him and the cast, a good drama, but I found the movie very depressing, maybe because it is or maybe because I can relate too well to the story. There is a ~happy ending or at least a good moral shown at the end. |
