For the first question, it really depends on your personal circumstances. Its easy for some of us to sit here and tell you to quit the job but it comes down to whether or not you can afford to do so. If you can afford to and he is not paying you some stupid amount that even when halved it amounts to a huge salary then you really should leave. Unless there are facts you have omitted then a boss really should not behave in this manner.

BTW, is this Cameo?

I would leave if i had enough cash saved or another job waiting. Hell, iŽd leave if my boss just brought it up. However, make sure youŽre covered first!

Can you afford to leave? Can you afford to stay? That depends on how little you are getting after the pay cut.

There are lots of restaurants out there seeking staff, not to mention all the other areas where employers are short staffed. If your new halved salary is lower than a full wage somewhere else, then I would definately be looking for a new job.

If you want to open your own place, then I assume you must have some money saved, so possibly you dont need to work for a low wage? If you dont have enough money saved to start your own restaurant, will you be able to keep saving for your dream on a half salary?

Good luck whatever you decide to do!
