| Post subject: Pls recommend KTV in Puxi |
Hi, I have the honour picking the next karaoke-place to entertain some clients and friends (mostly westerners). I am not a big fan of KTV but as I can choose the place, may be this time it will be less painfull.... |

Yeah, if you GOTTA go to one, Cashbox/Partyworld is probabl;y your best best with at least some selection of english and non-chinese language songs. Facility is nice and other than the FuXing Park one, I think they have a buffet option.
kind of fun given the right crowd (and right level of drinking) but, not my usual activity of choice. |

one guy told me in "la disco" its about 1300 rmb (some drinks incl.) for 5 people and 300 rmb for each of the parading girls who win a spot at the table. part two took me by surprise, because the places where i have been before (taiwan) were no meatplaces per se.
is it different here in shanghai? i guess it's more: this or that. duo keyi... |

Personally I prefer Cashbox (FuXing Park) is better for entertaining clients/friends because the place seemed a bit more "decent" compared with the other ones which is of more casual atomsphere. By the way even the people didn't enjoy too much then may just walk to the Park 97 pub etc. in the opposite side. |

thanks folks. i guess cashbox it is (park 97 pub so close is an asset). next question would be: "which songs to choose, to be safe - even as a total karaoke-looser..."
....but this would be a different thread then, right? |

non-hostess: you just go in and get a room with friends and drink and sing all night.
hostess: you go in with a group of guy friends and they parade in groups of attractive women (depending on where you go) that join you and drink with you, sing with you and, if you pay them enough money, go home and f*** you. |

Sandman, where type of clients are you entertaining? Southern Baptist?? Morman??? Mine would be totally pi**ed if I took them to Cashbox since they only want to experience the hostess clubs; otherwise I'd take them to a nice pub or similar bar. Many US customers love the idea of going to Hooters just for the sake of experiencing the Chinese version, even though I find it a boring after the first year.
CKS69, I love the avitar! Do you have that in any higher res that can be blown up? I'd love to send that to a few of my Bush / Fox News buddies. |

For newcomers it would be very excited and not knowing what to do once get seated and the crew running in and out. My experience is always get something on the screen first to draw people's attention and get in the mood quickly - so the best way is always goes to the "hottest picks list" in ranking then just choose the songs (about 5-6 songs) from there. Usually there are a few pages and one can easily pick the songs would be liked by most people (& not too difficult to sing). One may have impression that the songs are the latest songs on the list but I didn't find it the case. Usually they are the good songs and a bit "old" ones e.g. 80's & 90's - perhaps this is the age group of people who can spend a lot of money now and something reminded of their young life.
When the music plays then there will be enough time to drag into the detail song lists by singer etc. & the real favourite songs - it takes a bit complicated to "get used to the" computer's logic somehow.
Hope the tips help.... |

If your clients and friends are mostly westerners, does it have to be KTV? Most westerners are not into this at all.
As for Spanish karaoke discs, what a thought! The mind boggles! |

I hate the idea of hostess KTV. I really enjoy Karaoke and love to go out with my friends, but I really don't need the hostess bit at all. In fact, to be honest, I probably would leave if someone else organised a trip to one. I would just feel uncomfortable.
Not sure whereabouts you are based in Puxi, but Hotrocks99 on Wuzhong Lu is a lot of fun. If you search their songbase alphabetically, you can find a lot of English songs. Not sure about Spanish, but they did have French, so maybe!! |
