| Post subject: Travelling in China without a passport |
Has anyone lost their passport or is having their new passport done and they have travelled within China for business trips? Of course, I have a letter from my consulate saying that my passport application has been submitted.
Has anyone travelled within Asia without a passport? Just wondering...thanks |

for travel within china, you may be able to get a form from the psb explaining the situation. this is common when a visa is being changed or extended so they may be able to do the same thing for a lost/stolen passport with the proper documentation. best to call them and find out what can be done.
traveling throughout asia? doubtful. a passport will be required to exit china and enter other countries. if your consulate cannot issue an emergency passport for emergency travel the it is highly unlikely you will be able to go anywhere. |

Never lost my passport,, but would NOT come here with out one, especially if you are just visiting. You will----- in my opinon be 'harrassed' everywhere, and GOD forbid ANYTHING happens. My husband has only traveled from Shanghai to HK with a 'letter' from consulate, but certainly would NOT recommend it. That is just my opinon. Others may have a different view point but WHY 'push the envelope"??? What if you get sick, have something stolen, money stolen, ANYTHING can happen here, just like it can in any big city. Do not understand WHY you would want to do this in the first place. IF it is work,, I would just say,,,,, "wait until I get my passport and proper papers",, ANY reputable company would understand.

Totally agreed with sass. about 3 years ago I went to Beijing using my other travelling document and left the passport at home in Shanghai. And my husband suddenly wanted to go to mongolia for the nadam. I had to go all the way back to shanghai to pick up my passport and then back to Beijing. And because there's no time for the visa, we had to take the train so that we could get the visa ots at the border. I take my passport with me whenever I travel since then. |
