Post subject: Non-smoking Restaurants

An earlier post asked about non smoking environments. Since the majority of people, even here in Shanghai are non-smokers, it seemed appropriate for us to try and compile a list of restaurants that are non-smoking or have a dedicated non-smoking section. Please contribute any others you can. (off-topic comments should be made in a seperate thread) I will start off the list:

Non Smoking restaurants:

Moon River Diner ALL FOUR LOCATIONS! though Jing An Location has a Lounge/dining Floor and outdoor patio on the third floor where smoking is allowed.
Mc Donalds
KFC
Starbucks
Pizza Hut

FountainBleu a nicely appointed American styled restaurant with great food and smoke free environment. Located on HongBaoShi Rd East of Carrafour in the newly developing New GuBei area. [CLOSED NOW]

ZaoZiShu (枣子树)various locations in Shanghai including near HuaiHai Lu next to Hong Kong Plaza, off Nanjing West Rd, and on Shui Cheng Lu in Gubei area. vegetarian food restaurant. Non-smoking and they enforce it diligently.

Places with non-smoking sections:

Various UBC Coffee stores EXCEPT one on nanjing rd pedestrian street next to Hotel Sofitel.
Coffee Bean (Zun Yi Rd next to Parkson) all non smoking excpet small glass room
Coffee Lox - many have seperate glass smoking area
Dante Coffee on Nanjing Rd - has glass area for smoking in back [CLOSED NOW]
TGIFridays- has non-smoking section in back section of restaurant
Bellagio on ShuiChengLu; tight quarters but they do reserve about 10 tables in the back for non-smoking. Taiwanese food.
Chinese Restaurant at Regal East Asia on HengShan Rd. Non smoking section is the windowed area.
Pasti on Beijing West Rd has a large NON SMOKING SECTION and a small smoking section for those too addicted to make it through a nice meal without...
Jimix also on Beijing West Rd has a nicely appointed non-smoking section indoors.

Yu, this is great. I will be sure to keep my eye out from now on, and add to this list whenever I see one. Has anyone checked out Pizza Hut?

From Kiwi's other post:

Kiwi wrote:
And a few places are either non-smoking or have non-smoking sections. Can't think of a whole lot off hand:
Starbucks
Dante Coffee shop (mostly non-smoking, with the smoking part glassed off)
Plaza 66 claims to be non-smoking (but they seem to let people smoke in the restaurants which kind of defeats the purpose)

Great idea! Lets keep this topic alive, by listing our findings, so that it doesn't get buried. Here are mine:

Hagendaz Ice Cream - went to the one in Shanghai West Gate Mall (MeiLongZheng) but other branches probably also nonsmoking.

Yong He King - by Mei Luo Cheng plaza in XuJiaHui. Did not notice anyone smoking there and no ashtray on the table. Local food.

Gino's Cafe - have nonsmoking section but is not physically divided. It's next to the Frienship Store in Hong Qiao New Development Area. Decent Italian food.

A good 'non smoking environment' is underwater.
The deep end of swimming pool at JC Mandarin on Nanjing Xi Lu is good.

Yin - Chinese food, in the Okura Hotel compound.

NOTE: Smoking is allowed but I've generally felt ok dining here with people choofin away as the tables are far apart and the ceilings are very high.

You can still smell the stink if there's some serious choofin going on but it is not as overpowering as some other places.

There are two Harn Sheng restaurants that I know of also that have a non-smoking section, usually on the second floor. One is on Heng Shan Road downstairs from the Bowling alley and Real Love Disco, the other is on Zun Yi Lu next to the Hong Qiao Parksons.
They serve a mixture of chinese/asian foods. Not bad.

First floor of Carrefour at Gubei has a eatery section with many types of cuisine. It has a non-smoking seating area.

My wife told me (while I was getting our food) that a man sat down next to her, took out a cigarette and was ready to light it. But then he noticed the sign, smiled and simply walked away.

Needless to say, we enjoyed a nice smoke-free lunch.
