Post subject: New facility quarantine for dogs

I have heard that there is now a new facility for quarantining dogs, is this true? I have been told that they are in this facility for 30 days and then you can pick them up... Shocked

We were going to bring back a puppy with us at Christmas time but I won't if this is the case... please let me know if you have heard anything about this.

This has to be one of the most dam.ned frustrating things here. I have been trying to get info about this for weeks since a friend is moving here next week with a dog. No one has been able to provide a consistent answer. Really pis.ses me off.

There was something in yesterday's paper on this subject. Apparently there will be one week quarantine in a new facility, then a month in-home quarantine.

HOLY OBSESSIVE POSTER BATMAN!
pissy-dear why do you do this to yourself? worrying about something 8 months off when your "prudent research" should be telling you things in China can change on a whim so any answer today may be entirely different when the time comes to apply it (and if it doesn't don't you have something more rewarding to entertain your present energies?)

you wail in another thread about the roller-coaster of pre-move overload- for cripes sake take the posted advice and take a break from the forum for awhile - focus on enjoying life in Canada before you trade one ride for another in yer impending move...

We currently are expecting to get our cat out of 7 days worth of quarantine on Thursday. He is a bit elderly but in good health, so we (and our vet) thought he would be better off spending his last few years with us here and decided to take the chance. The current rule is that after 7 days and a clean bill of health (whatever that means) they can go home and finish the rest of the quarantine with you. It really has been worrisome as we love him dearly, but I could not leave him behind after leaving our golden ret. and another cat. Jialiang helped us deal with customs and even translated a letter from our vet regarding our cat's prescription diet..the custom's officials agreed after reading it that they would feed him his own food (I hope). I will post regarding his condition when we get him back on Thursday, or pm me for details.

This place is crazy. Our friend arrived today with a dog. Showed the paperwork to Customs and was waved out the door. Dog was obviously in a crate and had the normal USA paperwork.

This place is nuts! The randomness of it all just boggles the mind.

Thanks mmd and treespirit. Good to know - I think I can handle a week way more than I can handle a month. Our puppy will only be 14 weeks old and I think this is a critical age for him/her to get to know our family. Hopefully we'll just walk right through like tjack's friend.

After getting married this summer, I am gonna go in south east Asia to enjoy my brand new wife for 11 days... Happiness is really happiness this year.

Only problem is: Where to put our lovely dog for this period?

He is a 8 months Schnauzer (about 17 kg), nice, well educated, easy living... Do somebody know a pet Hotel or some people competent to keep him happy and healthy for 11 days...??

Please send your tips to lesageaude@hotmail.com or Geolietar@hotmail.com

Thanks
