| Post subject: Housing Allowances |
I am trying to find out how much is a typical/average housing allowance from a US company placing someone in Shanghai. This would be for only one person, renting a fully furnished apartment in PuXi.
Additional question: What does one typically receive for a moving and/or "curtain" package to get settled into their apartments.
Thanks. |

Some companies will buy this data from third party benchmarking vendor. The allowance is set based on your marital status, salary level, what is your originating city, etc. Some companies do their own benchmarking and set their own level. It's really hard to point to a norm.
You didn't say where in Puxi? Rents vary considerably. You can easily find something very well located for USD 2000/month and below. If you are further away from the city center it's cheaper.
"Curtain" allowance - maybe USD 1000 (that will buy you plenty of curtains!). Not sure how typical it is to offer this |
