Everything one is all over.. I wonder if certain age groups or nationality favor one neighborhood or another.

lliu316, yes, Hengshan Lu and Dongping Lu are in the same area, but the type of establishments on each of these roads is different . If you've been there, you'll know what I'm saying.

The Dongping Lu area has the western pubs like Blarney Stone, Sasha's, British Bulldog and O'Malleys, plus some great restaurants like Azul/Viva, Simply Thai and Di Shui Dong. Hengshan road is lined with bars, nearly all with girls who want you to buy them a drink; then there are the seedy clubs such as Bourbon Street and Real Love, and lots of restaurants which are mostly local. Dongping Lu has a quieter environment, while Hengshan Road is a lot more bustling.

Hongmei Lu has the entertainment street with several bars, including Baby Bamboo (very average, when compared to Big Bamboo), Be-Bop and Nancy's. There are lots of restaurants, including German, Indian, Thai, Japanese etc etc. Over the road from the Hongmei entertainment street is the Pearl City complex which includes a Zentral, and nearby is Bukhara (an Indian place). A little further north on Hongmei, and over Yan'an Xi Lu, is El Cubano, a small Cuban-style place that attracts a large, partying Latino crowd late on weekend nights. Over the road from El Cubano is a complex with several restaurants including a Mediterranean one, Japanese and Thai. From the entertainment street heading south, there's Renessence Cafe for a change of pace, plus City Supermarket and the new Pines supermarket.

That'll cost you a beer, subhashis.basu. Will claim it when you come over to Hong Mei Lu for a few liquid refreshments.
