I realize there are some diverse cuisines all lumped here.. but we did not really have a number of nominations for each separate category of cuisine. |

Probably because there's a lot of chinese restaurants in Shanghai.
There's a little place near my apartment out here in Minhang that could win hands down! Only problem is, only local people know about it. I'm sure there's TONS of little places like that around Shanghai too. |

Yeah I'm with skyline, this is a difficult category to nominate or vote in as most good chinese restaurants are local hole in the wall places. I've actually never been to any of the ones nominated so can't vote and no-one would know my local restaurant i would nominate anyway!! |

I was just kind of thinking that it would help to know a few of the better ones by name..and I know what you mean, inspite of how many Chinese places there are.. where think of going to if you want good chinese. maybe we should have had a category for hole in the wall, ma and pa noodle shops. |

I'd vote for Charmant on Fuxing Xi Lu. |

Hey Michael!
Like the general feeling on this board, I think this is too broad a topic. How about create a category like favorite Chinese cuisine? Then people can put in their recommendations, etc. and we can all learn some more about Chinese food. |

Dingtaifeng, Charmant, Boduoxinji, and Yuxing are all good.
Boduoxinji especially deserve a mention because they combine excellent quality with low prices. They could be in the budget eats category as well.
Shanghai Renjia is hit an miss and can be extremely bad. South Beauty is hyped and overpriced. |

They are a Chaozhou restaurant. Actually a chain with about 4 or 5 branches around town. The nicest is the one behind Xiangyang Market. Look for a small alleyway on that street behind the market (Nanchang Rd.), running south a little way west of the big apartment complex there. Walk down the alleyway and look out for the yellow colored sign with red writing. Around dinner time you often have to queue to get in, so try and go either early or a little late. |
