Post subject: Western-style Baby Bed/Mattress

Hello. I am new to Shanghai from U.S. I am pregnant with twins, expect in 3 months. Had most of the baby things shipped from the U.S. and my husband assured me we could find baby beds here. The only ones I have seen are at Carrefour and IKEA. They seem smaller than the U.S. style, and mattresses are really hard. Can anyone suggest a place to buy good Western/European style baby beds?

Or, is there some forum where expat families will sell their baby products which they no longer need? I have seen a lot of expat families with small children, wondering how they get rid of things their babies have outgrown?

Thank you!

IKEA cribs follow the US standard size. The Asian/European standard crib size is different and slightly smaller. We have been using an Ikea crib plus a Good Baby brand mattess (RMB 159 for the mattress I think at Pacific Department Store) for two years now for my daughter.

I bought our crib sheets and mattress pad online at Landsend.com. They ship internationally. (I could not find nice ones here and the ones sold in Hong Kong followed the European size crib mattresses).

Child safety experts say crib mattresses should be very firm.

You can get very expensive German baby mattresses and cribs if you go to Orient Department Store in Xujiahui or to Isetan on Nanjing Road.

I have heard of random garage sales around. Probably most of us with young children here are holding onto oour things because we might have another...
