I voted for the neighborhood noodle shop because I don't like getting filled up on street food. Baozi is OK for breakfast or a snack but I wouldn't make a big meal out of it.

My favorite cheap food place is actually Punjabi on XiangYang road. I haven't been there since the market closed but that buffet deal was phatty!

Post subject: great food

My favourite affordable and yummy is Deli Darbar on Hongmei food street!
Good service, huge amounts of delicious Indian food. I must eat there at least once a week!!!
Also the Xinjiang rest. on Fumin lu (near Chang le)...

House of Flour in Pudong has an awesome dinner deal...buy a main course (30-40 rmb) and get any one of their cake slices for 10 rmb more. They've got some awesome cakes, and good salads, pastas, and sandwiches. All an excellent value to me.

Pasti at corner of Beijing Lu and Shanxi Lu. RMB42 for a set lunch including a plate of good pasta, a soup or salad.

Awesome Hunan Restaurant on Huating Lu, same quality food as Guyi, less nice decor and cheaper. One of my favorites!!

^ I think they actually use the exact same menu as Guyi actually. I mean, the exact, as in stolen.

Guyi closed for a bit for refurb at the moment.

HAAA! Yeah! I was pissed once outside the back gate at Park 97 in the "good ol' days" and I was having some "yang rou chuan" after a Whiskey & Green Tea marathon. A group of smartar$e laowai walk by and say "mmmmmmmmmm - mice meat". I havent been back. I still have nightmares. As said, I am a sad little man.

Best deal for the Walrus is Mrs. Walrus' pasta at home. Handmade all the way baby!!
