Post subject: Putuo Shan

Anyone been to this island and if so, would you recommend it, how did you book it, how much was the fast boat (&where does it leave from) and how much were hotels? Did you book the hotels in advance? What's the crossing like at this time of year, choppy waters?

Also, would you consider it a romantic destination??

So many questions, sorry! All advice gratefully received!

i heard that it is nice, but not really that nice. very crowded. friends of mine have gone to smaller islands they say are much nicer, less crowded and cleaner. an hour by bus, then two hours by ferry. though, the price i was quoted was not really that cheap (i mean, for china....), but i guess a nice getaway for the weekend when heading south to hainan or out to thailand is not an option...

Thanks aquagirl. What are the other islands called and how did you get your quote?

1. yes, nice place
2. book that thru a tourist agent
3. for one person around 400 or something, sorry few months ago, nearlly forgot.
4. leave from wu song harber
5. i remember the reservation of the tourist agent, includs the fee for hotels
6. yes, you need to book in advance, but by the agent
7. not sure about the crossing of this time, should not be too bad i assume
8. about romantice destination. i like the island, mainly because of the beach there, plus the historical buildings, the plants.
P.S. Aquagirl is partly right, there are too many people, most are tourists from other places of China or out of China, since the place is tooo famous. But if you can find a nice time and a nice place, not really that crowded. just see if you are lucky enough, i enjoyed that anyways. to see the monks walking along the beach, or to see the meditation of the monks or in forests.

anyways, have a nice trip.

oh, again, if you want the agent, you can use the one i usually use, i heard they have service in both chinese and english, here's there number: 34241770 in case you want it.

Good Time!

no, not chong ming. i forget. i suck at names.
the boat leaves saturday morning, and then leaves sunday afternoon. you have to book in advance. my friend told me three hours travel time one way. and i think the total she gave me about a month or so ago was about rmb 700.

damn it. i can't remember the name. will find out.

Would you recommend we go mid week rather than at the weekend?

I recommend to book the hotel when you arrived there... It's cheaper and there are plenty vacant rooms as long as it's not national holidays. Had experience before, booked the hotel in advance thru a travel agency, once we arrived in putuoshan the hotel was suck.... probably I could rate it 1 out of 10. I asked a 4 stars hotel in there, they gave me cheaper price than what I paid for this sucky hotel.

Fast boat takes about 3.5 - 4 hours including the bus ride from Nan Pu Da Qiao to the port (1.5 hrs ride). It costs about RMB 225 for regular class.

It is not a good place for honeymooners... A lot of Buddhist temples and monks...
