Post subject: Blood Tests - in depth test ??

Hi

I need a hospital that specialises in testing blood (not contagious so don't worry). Any one have details please.

Also, is there an eye specialist hospital?

Any other useful info appreciated.

Liam

Huashan hospital's foreigner clinic can do some tests; I don't know what you are looking for, but they can do most standard things. I had liver function tests done there once. It ain't cheap if you are making RMB and have no health insurance (I think the total fee for blood work, doctor check up, etc.. will run about 500-600RMB).

The hospital is on Wu Lu Mu Qi (Urumqi) Lu not too far from Jing An Si/Temple. They speak English quite well if that is a concern and you can find their phone number on-line with a quick search (likely on this forum).

Thanks guys, I was looking for "local" hospitals specialising in these areas. I'm not knocking the Huashan (it can be pricey - my only visit there cost over 1200), I'd just prefer to stay local.

Maybe it'd be a good idea to build up a list of which hospital specialises in what area for us all to refer to?

Though I have no real idea about what local hospitals are good for what, I'm completely supportive of the idea...

On Hongkiou Lu, just near the Hongkiou garden is a big Shanghai Blood Testing hospital... I noticed it on one of my walks. Next time I pass that way I'll try and look out for the correct address.....

(if you walk towards Gubei from where Huai Hai Xilu meets Hongkiou Lu you should see it on your right. Its huge with a big sign...)

Thanks Nam

I know the one you mean but I'm told it's more of a research/bank type of place but I'll try & contact it to be sure. Most locals' reaction to such questions are "I don't know", so there is always hope.

My experience to date (though not always for my own use) is that the best neuro/brain doctors are at the Huashan Hospital (not the foreigners section). You'd need some help to get in but when I was there for support with a friend dealing with their family problem, the doctor spoke English. There's a new building close to the foreign section on Wu Lu Mu Qi where the operations happen that's BUPA style.

We used the maternity hospital on Wuyi Lu (next to the sports stadium) to have our son which again, is a new hospital and so modern & clean. The staff mostly speak Chinese but this is slowly changing (our doctor spoke English). The staff were incredibly nice, helpful, took the time to listen, discuss water births etc. We visited the "normal" choices and Wuyi Lu just beat them hands down both for pre-natal and the birth. The one thing I find a problem now is ante-natal. You're assigned a hospital relative to your address and have no say in the matter. If anyone knows differently, please say as I'm not impressed with ours.

Another hospital I've used is the army one on Huashan Lu (near Pingwu Lu). They'll help with fevers, broken bones, cat scans.

Anyone else care to add to this?

I'm still looking for blood & eye specialists.

Update:

Raijin Lu wanted 2,500+ for detailed blood tests. I found out the same tests for a local are on approximately a third of the cost.

They also wanted to run CT & MIR tests at 3000 for each scan. I chose another Hospital where they said only the MIR is required as the CT wouldn't pick up the detail as good as the MIR. For two scans this was 1500 instead of the 6,000 at Raijin.

Also remembered the ENT hospital is opposite the Paulaner on Feng Yan Lu.

On a side note, Michael, is there a way to collate the hospital info and put it as a sticky note??
