Post subject: Has anyone ever failed the medical examination?

Hiya,

Has anyone failed the medical examination before?

My husband had his examination done in the UK where in-depth tests have to be carried out because his liver showed abnormal result. After a couple of weeks talking with some experts it turned out to be a fatty liver.

We had the all clear then but had to re-do the examination here in Shanghai where he failed. He's been asked to come back but we're worried that they will not look into it as deeply as they did in the UK and will just assume that he's an alcoholic or worst has hepatitis!!

Does anyone know whether the doctors have a lot of leeway to investigate this abnormaly or would they just reject his application?

Cheers.

Hi Baby Panda,

I failed.

Same story. The fatty liver thing.

Fatty liver is ok as long as it is not the worst stuff. I have to re-do by test in Ha Mi Road again for the second time. As long as the result of the second test shows stable statistic, it should be ok. I got my test passed the second time and have no problem in getting my permit thus visa.

After the test, yuo can then find your own Docter and get some medical examination again if you wanted to. For my case i will have to cut down on liquor and meat intake.

Hey,

I too failed the medical for liver abnormalities, but it turned out that I was just really sick from a stomach virus I picked up while in Malaysia before moving up here. I recovered and did the tests again and passed with no problems.

Before I passed the second test I was concered maybe I did have a liver problem and I was told (from HR at my office who claimed to know about what was a problem/what wasn't) that unless it was a serious problem I likely wouldn't be prevented from settling in. I don't really know what "serious problem" means, but I think wesley's answer is likely the right one. If your measures are reasonably stable, and aren't REALLY bad, you likely won't have too much trouble.

Thanks guys. I am a little less worried... I am not sure what you mean by STABLE statistic but I should think the result this time around would be the same as the previous one.
But since the doctors in UK weren't too concerned, it can't be a serious problem.... She says... Confused

I had 3 things highlighted at the end section of my medical documents including fatty deposits on liver but was never failed. The advised my to stop drinking and adopt a low fat diet.

Wonder what the pass criteria is.

that is really funny to read that because me too have gotten the results back and had to show up again because of my liver... went again a week later and the results were okay then...

It appears everyone here seems to enjoy drinking.

Does anyone know if the hospital keeps our records on file? It'd be nice if they could just print it out again in the future if it was ever needed.

They do keep them on file, but if you want a print-out they demand you do the test again. Because print-out cost you 25RMB and complete medical check 400RMB.

Just money bastards, I had before I came three test already (last one three days ago upon arrival) and still demanded me to do the bloodtest etc again. Real bureaucratic %$#@* ! Oh well, shouting etc. won't help so just took the test and no trouble (as expected Smile )
