No need to go to HK, only if you have no other alternative to get a longer stay visa.
Easy to find work, well yes the are looking for people. BUT then you get stuck into a year contract too.
And Yes, people do got shaky when you are riding an business or student visa. When on tourist visa it's even worse, so rather find a job first and then come to Shanghai, there are many schools looking to hire a teacher and the all advertise online.
Any other comments also needed, because my experience when only a student visa were not that good, fortunately now I have a Z one
