so far i have used city chop ones, the meagre 3% (but better than nothing) ones, and each time was a real hassle as they didn't know what it was, and had to ask another staff to come look at it. The first time I used one, there were 6 staff members reading it and trying to figure it out!! Not used any others as I don't have a printer! (printed the cityshop ones at my brother's place while i was in s'pore)

I used city shops coupon last Saturday at Portman.
There were no questions asked.

The first time that I used these coupons was at aroma garden.
I didn't need to show the coupons.
When i said shanghaiexpat, they already know about it.

I used the Malone's coupon in October. The waitresses had no clue what it was and had about 6 other staff trying to decipher the coupon. They would not accept it until we made a fuss and asked them to call their manager. When the bill came, they mistakenly charged us only for one burger instead of half price off the second one.

So far I've used coupons at Jamaica Blue, Azul, and Pizza Italia. Sometimes there was confusing from the wait staff, but I always got the deal in the end. I feel that Azul's 50% off was my best experience so far. Getting food that good for such a small bill is really worth it.

Most of the time I get total confusion from the waiting staff, they have no idea at all and this usually leads to everyone working gathering around for a long and pointless discussion with a conclusion rarely reached.

Oh...and I'm not even using the coupons!

That's normal I guess. When managers don't inform their staff about the coupons.

i have only used the Micasa one and haven't had any problems.

I agree that the city coupon is a little meagre (I'm sure this is more to do with what the supermarket wants to offer though than with shanghai expat) they are barely worth using. I generally spend 100 - 300 in one go at city, so this would give me a saving of 3 to 9 rmb! hardly worht the printer ink really!

Every coupon has the expiration date located on the lower right corner.

I've tried a number of them and never had any problem getting them reclaimed so far (knock on wood).

My favourites: Jamaica Blue's "Buy 1 Get one free" and their "Get a free cake on purchases above 25rmb." They thoroughly rock. Starbucks never more!

Tried the Azul one, and it's fantastic: 50% off is too good to pass.

Constantly use the 3% of CityShop. True, it's not much, but depending on your total purchase amount they are basically paying for your ride home.

Tried Papa Schnitzelhaus' coupons too, and had a good experience. The offer is not as big as Azul's but heck, you get free beer Smile

Tried Bubba's as well, their Friday coupon. Considering their margarita is AMAZING having a pulled pork + margarita for 75rmb total is an outrageous good deal.

GF used the dance thingy in Yarose Belli Dancing and she was satisfied with it.

I printed a bunch of these coupons of my favorite places and keep them in my bag.

I will be trying more of them in the future. I think it's a pretty solid idea. I am happy with it.

I tried Papa Schnitzelhaus wed Coupon.
SMSed the contact number and I got a reply of the movie title and time.
They were playing Pirates of the Carribean Part 1 and 2.
They had a big flat screen tv, English audio with Chinese Subtitles.

Got unlimited peanuts instead of popcorn! IT was ok.
I had a great time.

I hope this is working for the business owners that are participating: think about this:

We never went to Mexico Lindo before because we consider it kind of far from our home, but we went because of the coupon from Shanghai Expat. And we discovered a really nice place and we will now be coming back, coupon or not.

edit: wow, what a difference one letter makes: not/now... sorry for that mistake! I meant to say we will now be coming back, coupon or no coupon.

Thank yu888 for pointing out my error! Smile

so the coupon was good for bringing in a new customer that may not repeat BUT have had a good experience enough so that in case anyone asks, it coudl still refer new business. Not too bad.

used the Azul's 50% off Monday coupon 2 days ago and totally love it. there were 3 of us, so we ordered 4 tapas. Beef, mushroom, seafood capela, and lamb... total bill came out to be 180RMB but with the coupon it was 90rmb so it was only 30rmb per person for 4 tapas.

great deal. will probably go back again next monday.
