| Post subject: Cargo to Brisbane Australia |
G'day all,
We are teachers at Changzhou. Near enough to Shanghai for the purpose of this note.
We all have the same problem, getting personal effects back to Brisbane at a reasonable rate.
One of the teachers is single and is returning in July. she estimates a "tea chest" full to go.
Since I have a wife, I will probably have somewhat more (probably "somewhat" translates to a bloody lot more). Although, we do not return to Australia until early next year.
What is the most economical method of sending personal effects back to Australia, with no object as to time. Are there any agents who deal with small packages/boxes at a reasonable price. I have been told that the rates for postage at China Post is much much more than Australian rates, and I thought nobody could possible beat theirs.
Thanks in advance for any words of wisdom.

Brian, I send two boxes home to Syd.. bigger than tea chests and about 30 kilo each. Did it all via DHL, including customs clearance, delivered to the door, the whole box and dice.. $A150 in total (although that was the corporate rate)
I thought that was quite resonable. |

Thanks a lot for that info, although we could probably double the price for the "non-corporate" rate. Even at double, I would be happy to pay that.
We will contact them when the other teacher is going and see what they charge her.
Brian. |

Hello Brian,
As Iam in the same situation to go back to France, I will be glad to know how much post office will charge you.
I have checked the price by boat: 10 000 rmb for 3m3, 2 month delivery mini. |

For the ones who could read this thread latter:
I was charged around 3600rmb to ship my 9 personnal stuff(clothes, shoes, books...) boxes (150Kg) from Shanghai to Paris-France in surface transport (boat) which will take between 1 and 2 month to arrive.
Door to door service. |

Conclusion:
After a big time I received all my boxes at home:
First 7 boxes arrived after 1.5 month and were not in a good shape.
I had to go took them from the office depot because too much to bring for the normal post office car service (it was 15min from home, not a big deal for me...)
Second and last set of 2 boxes arrived after 2 months and a week in a better shape (did people took more care?)
They arrived at my home door.
I was told my boxes did not took the boat
But the plane
And that custom did not controlled them...
If you are not in a rush you could probably send back all ur dvd back home with less risk by this mean...
Regards and enjoy Shanghai's life
Coz down here things are so quiet and slow... |
