I am going to Taipei for the first time, any recommandation on places to stay? Close to the tourist attractions |

hey when are u going? going to taipei alone on feb 4 but isn't my first time though. i'll be staying in a hostel in the central part of taipei. Hostel Taiwanmex. |

Depends what your budget is. A reasonable place is the Tai Hao Hotel on Hsing An Street, off Fuhsing North Rd; cost is about NT$1800 a night. Up in the 'Combat Zone' Shuangcheng Street area are a few places around NT$1300 a night. |

what does Taipei compare to? Is it like Beijing, Shanghai, Hong Kong in terms of price, atmosphere, nightlife, etc? |

Im going to Taiwan for Lunar New Years! What's there to see in Taipei? Not much... Probably just 101, if you want to pay to go up to the higher floors. Most attractions in Taiwan are spread out so I think there's nothing to see in Taipei. |

Not as dense as Hong Kong or Shanghai, but more so than Beijing. Relatively compact and easy to get around.
Somewhere between Hong Kong and the Mainland in terms of prices.
People are far friendlier than in Beijing, Shanghai or Hong Kong.
Nightlife varies. Overall the bars and clubs are probably less commercialized than Hong Kong and Shanghai, but not as grungy and down to earth as Beijing. Nature is more accessible than in the other cities (except perhaps Hong Kong) so some people go up to hotsprings restaurants or teahouses in scenic areas for nightlife. The locals tend to do KTV like here or visit nightmarkets. |

I'm also going to Taipei for Chinese New Year. My favorite place is Dan Shui, beautiful view + great food & souvenirs + fun night market. You could take the subway to Dan Shui 淡水 (It's one of the end stations). But I wonder how crowded it'll be, anyone has any idea? And whether most places in Taipei are open during the CNY holidays? |
