Post subject: ChinaMobile in Shanghai/Airport

A colleague secured me a mobile/cell phone the last time I was in China (October) which he activated for me with a number. When I left, I kept the phone, but my colleague deactivated the account/number. As it is SIM card driven (not common here in the US), I am under the impression that I can simply land next month and throw in a new SIM card, correct?

What I'm wondering is if there is a ChinaMobile rep at the airport? In the past I've seen some selling of SIM cards or whatever at the airport. I'd prefer to go with ChinaMobile, that way I can top it up on my travels or travails during my two-week stay in different cities.

If there isn't a representative/booth at the airport, is there a ChinaMobile close to the Bund? I usually stay at the New Asia Hotel near Qi Pu and would be close to the Bund and Nanjing Lu.

Thanks heaps in advance for any help...

SIM card phones NOT common in the US? Er....someone shhould tell Cingular/AT&T wireless. Wink GSM phones are actually fairly widespread in the US.

Anyhow, yes, you can come and put a new SIM card with new number into the phone and begin using. I have not found a place in the airport for it but there are plenty of places in town to get a new SIM. Inside most small shopping areas, metro stations, and at street side vendors in nanjing Rd. You needn't go to an actual China Mobile store to get it.
