| Post subject: Drinking water in Shanghai |
Hello. We will be arriving in SHanghai in 8 days!
Is the water in Shanghai safe to drink? Do I need special water distiller/filter system? We will be living in the Shimao Riveria. Overall, do we need to be careful with non-bottled water?
(I am from Mexico, so this is always a concern for me!) :)
thank you. |

the tap water is unlikely to make you sick from bacteria, there's too many chemicals in it for bacteria to live. You may not like the taste, and who knows what the long term affects of drinking it are. Almost everyone I know gets bottled water, but people wash food in tap water. |

I'd also recommend getting bottled water delivered. Washing dishes or brushing your teeth isn't a big deal, but I'm not convinced enough that I drink the tap water. Boiling the water (I sometimes do this for coffee if the bottle is empty) will kill the bacteria, but won't get rid of the trace heavy-metals.
I'd also caution that just because the water is delivered in a bottle, it doesn't mean that it's been properly filtered. If the water has the same "boiled water" taste, it might be a good thing to explore your options in finding another vendor to deliver it. |

We use bottled water for everything, but buy the more expensive brands.
The water here contains a lot of chlorine, no bacteria, funny taste |

Best to go that way, pretty easy for mr entrepreneur to just refill it in the dirty hallway and get his inovative partner to re-seal the bottles |

I used a filtering pitcher even on my bottled water for straight drinking (I'm of the same mind as Bougie). The heavy metals concern me, but I also don't like the chemical taste. |
