Have it depositied into a US bank and use your ATM card to get the funds.

BOC, but not ICBC, will accept foreign checks last time I checked (things may have changed recently, 2007 has many new banking laws/changes), but there will likely be a hold put on the check until it clears, ~30 days, and you'll have to pay a large fee. I don't know but Citibank, since it's a US bank here, may provide a better option if you can find a branch.

Coffee is correct. For now, only BOC will accept checks drawn on overseas banks. The hold is between 30 - 45 days and they charge a fee of about 50 RMB or less when you present the check and a 1% currency conversion fee if you choose to receive your funds in other than RMB.
