| Post subject: Short Malaysian Holiday |
I have an expo to attend in Malaysia next month and my wofe is coming with me. We have opporuntiy to get away for a weekend, Friday night until Monday morning.
anyone with any ideas of a good beach resort, easy to get to from Kuala Lumpur? I have been thinking of Penang, but if people know better please tell me. |

Good beach resort either at Penang or Langkawi. You can fly to either destination. And return fly straight into KLIA for flights back to SH.
Check out www.airasia.com.my for cheap flights.
Check out www.cuti.com.my for hotels.
If you like to relax, Langkawi it is with better beaches.
Penang offers sight-seeing and food. |

^Pangkor Laut is fantastic. Travelling from KL to there takes about 4-5 hours (road and ferry). My preference is better to fly into Penang or Langkawi.
Rather than Port Dickson, my preference is go to Melaka. I haven't been to Port Dickson for ages. |

Redang, Perhentian and Lang Tengah are among the best beaches for snorkelling & scuba diving. White sand and beautiful floral & fauna.... Memerizing... |

While in Penang check out E & O hotel (Eastern and Oriental) for nostalgic colonial atmosphere and fantastic view from the hotel of the sea. Place where Maugham stayed. Try Nyonya Baba Cuisine (formerly Dragon King Est 1976) 44 Nagore Road.Nonya cooking that is different from what's offered on the mainland. People there are generally more laid back and friendly and willing to chat- makes a holiday experience that much more meaningful. |

Perhentians are great for the beaches and it is a ton cheaper than the rest of Malaysia.
What people don't realize about Malaysia is that it is probably the most eco friendly countries in the world. There are over 70 Virgin Rainforests and several of them survived the ice age. It is one of the best places to view wildlife.
I think that Langkawi is better than than the East Coast beach places because of the forests, mangroves, jungles, flora, fauna, etc. The beaches might not be as nice (The Straight of Malacca is the busiest in Asia - hence, some trash showing up on the beaches), but the rest of the island makes up for that.
Someone earlier mentioned the Berjaya. I have never stayed there, but I've walked through it at dusk and was told it is the best place in the world to witness flying lemurs. Amazing.
And have you ever seen a hornbill? In Langkawi you can see the great Hornbill, oriental pied hornbill, and the wreathed hornbill. From Gunung Raya you can hear these birds flying from a quarter of a mile away.
People say there are lots of tourists in Langkawi but it is not anything close to places like Phuket or Samui.
Then there is Borneo... you can be in Kuching in about two hours from KL and there are many things to do such as Bako National Park. No beach resorts though. |

Batu Feringgi Beach could be where you are heading to, relaxation with sun and fun at its best!
Spend a good evening walk along the beach after you indulged yourself with all the famous local delicacies at hawker centers -- "Gurney Drive" .

Penang is great for food. Seriously, seriously great. It kind of sucks for beaches though to be honest. Just OK. |

^you can't. As of now, the nearest AirAsia fly to Shanghai is Xiamen. Supposedly end 2007/early 2008, AirAsia flies into HangZhou |
