Without Shanghai Expat I'd be a more productive and healthier individual. Thanks Shanghaiexpat for making me going out every other night and drinking too much.

Did you find your roommate, boyfriend/girlfriend, apartment or job on ShanghaiExpat? Nope.

Did it help you adjust to living in Shanghai and in China, find things (good beer and BBQ a major plus), and generally make life a lot easier? Abso-fcuking-lutely.

Can be pretty darned entertaining too.

Yo. I found an apartment or rather an agent----then I posted and found a better agent for this fall---the next China adventure. But when I need medical help---the site was invaluable. So if you think you are not making a difference with this site----wrong----you are!!! I have still struggled this trip to Shanghai---the cultural differences are huge to say the least. But at least on the forum----you know you are not alone. I have attended some events and plan on attending more. I am headed back to the States in few weeks but I will be returning in August. Now I have some friends from the events----to returning will be much easier---something to look forward to. Thanks Ed and the Sat. coffee crew---made my week much better.

Why did I forget the most important thing ? In April, an acquaintance had her mother go for hip surgery and badly needed A negative blood, we had ran out of volunteers.. then we appealed here.. and what a response we got ! Its thanks to the site that the lady is fine today... So many people, who went out of their way to donate blood, so many others who asked after her, and wished her well.. Definitely Sh Expat is the best.

SECURITY ALERT!! SECURITY ALERT!! SECURITY ALERT!! SECURITY ALERT!!
Don't tell anyone, but Shanghaiexpat has more information and is more usefull than any book or China website you can find!
In one place you can find out from where to buy bread to where to find a partner, or a dog, or a free cat!!
You can discuss health, love, friendship and even how is the life in this so different country!!
I think the government should put a notice in this website"
"Be Aware: ShanghaiExpat is an addictive website. Commom sense is needed or you will be stucked in the computer forever..."

Michael, you are a genius! thanks a lot for this wonderful work!!

I didn't find a room-mate or the love of my life through ShanghaiExpat. I haven't bought or sold anything through the site either. In fact, I probably don't use the site to it's fullest potential.

However, I have built up such an extensive and interesting social [and sometimes business] network that my initial transition and culture shock seems like a distant memory. After two years living and working in Shanghai, most of my close friendships [and let's face it, we all need lots of friends] originated from ShanghaiExpat. I'm told it's also very handy to find information, sell stuff or find a Chinese language tutor. That may be true but, for me, the enormous benefits have been the varied and interesting friendships [many will prosper into lifelong relationships, I'm sure] that have been formed since I arrived.

As far as I'm concerned, that is more than enough. Thanks to ShanghaiExpat. Keep up the great work!

ShanghaiExpat is my favorite website. I made the first post at ShanghaiExpat on May 16th, and will never forget the date. Through this website, I sold flight tickets to a lot of people, provide best service and got their support and appreciation, which makes me have strong sense of achivement. To come to Shanghai Expat everyday has become my habit now. Michael, thanks for establishing such a wonderful website, clap for you Very Happy

Shanghaiexpat cured my pain:

I woke up on Tuesday and noticed that everytime time I moved my arm a certain way, there would be pain in my shoulder.
I posted on Shanghaiexpat for help.
Magnolia said "so don't move your arm like that."
Wonderment, I was cured!

Right On !!

SHexpat has helped us adjust to life in Shanghai, find humour in things that were just bewildering at first, met friends from all walks of life and some who aren't Laughing
SHex has introduced us both to great people, great bars/restaurants, provided advice and social events, and more importantly great memories.

Cheers and a Happy 7th Birthday party party

Post subject: Great site

Thanks Shanghai Expat You have been making move to Shanghai a little easier, I have been a member for quite a while now,( and i was only visiting Shanghai at the time I joined), But I am now moving to Shanghai next month can't wait, I will be joining the coffee mornings etc.

Thanks Shanghai Expat for my lovely pen and note pad!!! from the Expat Fair last month, I raced over to your stand as soon I arrived, meet every one behind the desk, every one was so bright and cheery.

I did manage to fight my way to get my copy of the Residents Guide from the Expat Show, great Imformitive Book, I read every page.

SHexpat detoxified my system and got me off of my meth addiction. It also cured my herpes and helped me find Jesus. Jesus and I are now roommates.

This website is fantastic but there are just so many links, buttons and settings that it will take me some time before I discover and understand them all.

Here, you can post any questions you may have, a new friend shall post a reply in no-time. Amazing!

I originally posted this in Guest Book but I think it's more appropriate for Testimonials:

Thanks to ShanghaiExpat, my visit to Shanghai from Nov 29 to Dec 13 was the best trip I've ever taken. ShanghaiExpat is easily the most informative, active, and meaningful forum for expatriots in China on the internet.

Moderator Yu888 and others gave me answers to questions BEFORE my trip. When I arrived, I went to the Coffee Bean get-together at Zhongshan Park inside the Cloud Nine Mall the very next day, and there was Yu888 (and many others) giving me important advice that made my stay very smooth over the next 2 weeks (e.g., what banks, money exchange, interesting places, what to watch out for, etc.). After coffee and tea, a group of 8 (led by Yu888) ate lunch at a restaurant inside the mall, which prepared me for what to expect in Shanghai in terms of food, service, and price.

After that first lunch, my language exchange partner, Julie1984, whom I met on ShanghaiExpat in the Learning Languages forum, met up with me at the Cloud Nine Mall. Little did I know at the time that she would be the key to my stay in Shanghai. Julie is a graduate student at East China Normal University and wants to improve her English so she can go abroad in Europe to do her Ph.D. She is extremely warm and generous and took me to many places like the Old City, Bund, French Concession, Xin Tian Di, her university (which was my favorite place, if you can believe that), Muse and Baby Face (I like Muse better). She taught me how to use the Metro, bus, and taxi. Julie is not motivated by money but rather by a genuine sense of empathy and compassion and a desire to improve her English WHILE making new friends. She spent an enormous amount of her precious time for me. I believe she and I will be life friends, and I would like to recommend her to others on this forum.

Because of my super positive experience in Shanghai, I now intend to return next year with the purpose of setting up a test prep school focusing on SAT, GRE, LSAT, GMAT, and TOEFL. My plan is to live semi-permanently in Shanghai. My conclusion is that this unexpected chain of positive events started with this forum.
