I thought I'd share this little tidbit since almost no laowai know about this place. Qingyun Lu (青云路) in Zhabei district is Shanghai's unofficial eye glasses and contact lenses shopping street. The entire street is filled with these shops and then there is one big market that is simply everything glasses. The prices here will be a fraction of what you pay at the chain stores on Nanjing Xi Lu or Huaihai Lu. "Eyes" wants 200rmb for Acuvue2 contacts; at Qingyun Lu I got them for 125rmb. On Nanjing Xi Lu I paid 200rmb for new polyfiber lenses; at Qingyun Lu I got them for 50rmb. And to top it all off, today I got great frame-less glasses, with lenses, for a whopping 150rmb!
Every local knows about this place. It's at the intersection of Qingyun Lu and Baochang Lu. 青云路靠近宝昌路，眼睛市场。Good luck and remember to bargain hard!
