| Post subject: Shanghaiexpat's Best of Shanghai 2007 |
Its time again to run our Shanghaiexpat's Best of Shanghai Survey. We will be doing things a little different this year. We'll publish categories in the next week or so. For a couple weeks, we will accept nominations for the ones that get voted on. Then we will take all the nominations and put them into our snazzy survey software and everyone can vote.
If you have ideas or suggestions of categories or the way we handle this Best Of.. now is the time to tell us. |

Michael - great thing the best of, I hope its really successful. I cant help but comment on the process and think the opportunity to really establish a benchmark commendation for shanghai is being missed. The whole cycle of nominating catergories, nominating establishments and collecting votes is far too short, not marketted enough and not really transparent enough.
Whilst I agree the end result of last years 'winners' was not always bad, pronouncing a 'best of place' with less than 20 votes in a city of 20 million people seems just a little hollow.
At this point in time, the best of plaque means something to voters, customers and businesses. There is a risk of loosing this meaning if the process is flawed. I am not sure what 'forces' best of organisers are under but maybe it should be given the resources (including time) to do it justice. |

amazing.. thanks for your great feedback. Your observations are noted. The actual voting will be marketed much more extensively. Nominations are just to give a starting point. Already our response both in quantity and quality of nominations. has far surpassed last year. Also.. this is Shanghaiexpat and is really a subset of the 20 million people. While it by no means are we in a position to represent the views of the population of Shanghai, we do offer a window on the current scene from an demographically significant part of the population.
We have always tried to make it transparent, at least to the users on this site. The voting this year will not be in the forum but in an application designed to tally and track this kind of survey. Hopefully it will be an improvement. |
