i'll be in shanghai early september for a couple of months' stay. saturday's meeting is more family orientated, so i heard. sounds great. will check it out while i'm in town by myself first, and might bring my family over when they join forces with me late sept. this will be my very first taste of such an expat meeting, hope it'll be fun and can't wait to see you guys! |

Cool. Saturday coffee meets are pretty casual and very family-freindly as several of the regulars come as families or at least bring the kids along semi-regularly. |

Finally made my way there in one of early saturday events and must agree that it felt so much more relax among expats who had similar backgrounds, interests and curiousities about this and that... surely like the old time. Smaller crowd and more friendly interaction, I found it much better than Sunday one especially in term of the space. Coffee Bean - XTD on Sunday has become tge fave spot for way too many people that it starts to feel the jam like at Starbux before. Staffs also become less friendly and service was slow and less goodies on the sandwich or salad.
Only my personal opinion... |

| Could we start a coffee morning in the Xu Jia Hui area? There is a great Australian owned Coffee shop and cafe Called Hooked on Coffee, just opened in the Pine City Hotel on the Cnr of Zhao Jia Bang Rd and Dong An Rd. They have a great ambiance with Aboriginal paintings on the walls framed by sheets of corrugated tin (Very Australian) The owner will give a 20% discount to regular groups. |

^ Laotzu genuinly seems to want to get one started there and if so, cool. COmmunity involvement is what its about and if someone takes the initiative to do things right, I am all for that. |

I was over there this weekend & completely forgot about the coffee meeting! Will check it out this weekend, barring any "moving to new apartment" issues. |

I was all ready to head over, then the wife yelled, "NO! We have Moving to new Apartment Issues!" I spent a week unpacking & organizing things while she stayed at the old place (closer to her job). The way I set it up, it would've been the perfect Bachelors Pad! Now that she moved in & rearranged everything, I can NEVER invite girls over now! Doh! |

There will be a sign AND there is only one semi private area in the cafe. You can also ask the staff to direct you. See you tomorrow. |

Thanks for the Chinese directions, We are in Shanghai for a break from Nanqiao this weekend so will certainly drop in for that coffee. Looking forward to meeting some new people. With all the kids around it may make it a little easier on the missing of my grandkids. |

it was a pleasure meeting all the new folks that came to the coffee meet this morning! Quite a few younger folks and younger at heart folks which made for a good vibe for all that came. Looking forward to seeing you all more often! Cheers! |

A more detailed direction in Chinese:
请带我到 龙之梦购物中心
长宁路凯旋路 ( 请停在汇川路后门口)
靠近轨道3/4号线中山公园站
The third line expressed that the mall is closed to Zhongshan Park Station of Metro Line 3/4. |

Idiocy indeed,
anyhow, back to the topic at hand...
Thanks all that came out this past few weeks as the Saturday Coffee's have been packed, with participants from Australia, France, Italy, UK, US, Malaysia, HK and more! A few families have been popping in and out as well. NICE!
Thinking that in the next few weeks we will have to plan a trip out to places lik ethe fabric mart or one of the fake markets so we can get post-lunch activities going a bit. And another wine tasting will be on the horizon as many new expats have not had the chance to attend yet.
So stay tuned! |
