Any good restaurants that just have bad location? Name THEM?
I think thats what you meant right? Or if you meant How Many, then the answer is many indeed!
Le Bouchon- nice french place but so out of the way
De Marco on DZAB rd, great place but in a serviced apt lobby?
those pop to mind right away.
Most close down too quickly so I cant remember them all. |

Agree with Le Bouchon.
Much easier to name bad restaurants in good locations. |

Funnily enough the 2 you mentioned have been there for ever. Just shows that quality and service come before a good location. |

Southern Barbarian! My favorite Chinese restaurant in Shanghai -- really good Yunnan food. Corner of Maoming and Changle lu.... but it's hidden behind this awful art gallery. Once you find it -- it's the best! |

i am not sure i agree with le bouchon i have never been there but i used to live on kangding lu and le bouchon first is located less than 5mns from mediterraneo.
on wuding lu very close to wuning lu and jiansgu lu only 5mns from jing an temple by taxi 10mns walk and that have nothing to do with it but in case people do not know also 5mns from the wuning carrefour.
it is a little far for some people but i do not think it classify as really out of the way also depends where u are located |

i think you are not necessarily understanding what I mean by bad location. It IS indeed out of the way for the masses of expats that are their customers. Yes both restaurants are the closest wester restaurants to where i live.
But their locations are harder to find and out of teh way.
As for Mediteraneo, there is a good example of a BAD RESTAURANT regardless of location...too bad their venue is so nice. |

I thought it was just an old sign that said Thai Kitchen.... and Playing Majong....next to the rubbish bins. Is there a restaurant there? I see the sign on Wuding Lu but dare not enter. |

Damn you Matt!!!..The Thai Kitchen secret is out!!!!
There last night with the Thai Team for a Birthday Party.
Best Thai Food, Best Value, Cheapest Beer (but poor selection) in town...
Not much on ambience...
Hands down the winner in the category
Horrible location!
I especially like walking past all the garbage on the sidewalk from the restaraunt on the corner. Talk about horrific smells!! |

Unless there is another one somewhere else, the one on Wuding Lu (alley) has not attracted my attention. Geography is OK but setting back from the road and having big smelly bins as an entrance is not a plus for location. I have live around there for 5 months without noticing the restaurant (see the sign all the time). |

Thai house. At times before you go in and eat you have to pass by a big pile of garbage. In summer it smells. |

isnt that 'thai house'?
well, ive been calling it thai house and i like it.
yes, that rotting pile of garbage at the entrance to the alley leaves something to be desired but i dig the ambiance inside- as long as noone is singing ktv. |
