Post subject: How to re-enter China? Does a Re-Entry Permit really exist?

Hey Hey Kids,

If a friend of mine is on a single entry 6 month F Visa ..... they are planning to go to HK for the weekend and then come back ....

Does a "Re-Entry Permit" exist?

I've heard through the grape vine it does, but after attending the Bureau in Pudong, they got a Visa Application form and was lead to believe that once you leave the country .... thats it .... cant come back in unless you have another Visa ....

What they're after is just a continuation of the old F Visa not a re-application .....

Thnx in advance!

EDIT:
100th post ..... yeah baby!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There's 2 ways
1) get a "multiple entry visa"
2) get a residence permit (unlimited entry/exit)

FYI - is it a single entry, 6 month long visa, or a single entry visa that must be done within a prescribed 6 month period but may only be valid for a 1 month stay? I've had multiple entry 6 month visas before, but each visit could only be for 30 days. Don't head to HK until you know for sure, otherwise they may not be able to come back in AND have a big fine on the way out.

Single Entry, 6 month Stay....means they cannot re-enter without applying for another Visa.
Which they can do in Hong Kong.
Single or multi.

They can extend the 6 month visa for another 30 days....but must stay in Shanghai.

What they have is, in effect, permiision to enter China once.

Residence Permit....Usually only granted to people with employment/work permits.

Hi dhcp,

Where did your friend get the F visa, China Embassy (Consulate) or PSB?

If your friend got the visa in China Embassy, when he or she came to China, the 1 entry has been used up.

If your friend had the visa renewed or converted in China Mainland (issued by PSB), there is 1 entry that enables your friend exit and re-enter. The problem turns to be: has your friend ever used the entry during the 6 month? Rolling Eyes
