The following is from the Australian Consulate General webbsite regarding voting overseas.

Oooooh, is this copyright? Will I be thrown in the slammer? Hope Not:(

"Australian Federal Election 2007"

Australians resident in Shanghai, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Anhui, Hubei and Jiangxi Provinces, are advised that the Prime Minister has called a federal election for Saturday, 24 November 2007.

Voting is compulsory in federal elections for Australian citizens resident in Australia. However, if you are outside Australia on Election Day, you will not be fined should you fail to vote as long as you have notified the AEC. For further information, please contact the Australian Electoral Commission www.aec.gov.au.

According to new AEC requirements, if you are currently overseas and wish to vote in this election but are not currently enrolled, you will need to download an enrolment form from www.aec.gov.au and fax it to the relevant AEC office in Australia by 8 pm on Wednesday 17 October.

Voting will take place at the Australian Consulate General, located on Level 22, CITIC Square, 1168 Nanjing Rd West, tel: (021) 5292 5500, fax: (021) 5292 5511.

Pre-polling services will commence Monday, 12 November, 2007. Office hours will be Monday to Friday, 8.30am to 5.00 pm.

The exception will be on Election Day, Saturday, 24 November 2007 when the office will be open from 8:30 am to 5.00. Due to the expected volume of voter turn-out on Election Day, Australians wishing to vote are strongly encouraged to present for voting prior to this day.

Should you have any questions regarding the federal election, please visit the Australian Electoral Commission website at www.aec.gov.au.

And may the best man win..........um, that's my words not the CG's wink2

This guy was young, gives me a chill.

Heart attack kills 'Crazy John'

A constant stream of family and friends has descended on the Brighton home of 42-year-old mobile phone millionaire John Ilhan who died after a heart attack this morning while on a walking track near his home.

Cute, eh?

You're eligible to pay tax on any Aussie-derived income (i.e. if you've let out your house while you're away), but not eligible to help decide which bunch of twits will splurge those same tax dollars on their particular list of fruit-loop/pork-barrel projects.

Some democracy.

Flifox, maybe best to toddle off to the Australian Consulate. They should have a form to allow you to re-enroll from overseas. They don't state this on their webbsite but as a foreign mission they should have these forms. Maybe give them a bell on 5292 5500 or venture up to Level 22, Citic Square
1168 Nanjing West Road.

^ thanks, but for the likes of me who are naturalise aussies and who don't carry their citizenship card in their wallet or have the number tatooed to me arse, it's damn bloody impossible to complete one of those forms. Discrimination if you ask me.

Too late for this election anyways. Last tue was the last day to enroll. At least I won't be the only one who's not going to be voting for either of those twitts come Nov 24...and I won't get fined for not voting

I know this has probably been asked a thosuand times so for that i'm sorry but the search functions on this forum are REALLY bad.

Anywho coming to Shanghai in the 1st week of Jan for the forseeable future. One of my mates has already landed about 2 weeks ago and he and I are curious about AFL.

I had read that it was on the Dream Satellite on the Australian Network channel or something like that but Dream has dropped the ausnetwork.

In which case when it comes AFL time again will we have to go to Big Bamboo and such to watch games or is it only the finals?
Because BitTorrent versions of the AFL matches are soooo sub par.

I'm an AFL nut coming from having watched every game on Foxtel and Free to air TV so when AFL hits when i'm in shanghai I have to be able to watch at least 4 games a weekend or i'll go crazy =P

So can somebody please update me on what the deal is because its not entirely clear. Or more importantly for those that watched AFL last year how much of it were you able to watch because obviously not every game is broadcast but i'd hope at least half of them were.

Many thanks.

IMHO, way too many AFL games are played (4 games a weekend, if I recall) by those AFL-centric f-wits at Australia Network - and at at decent hours, too.

In comparison, League gets two games per weekend at sh*t times.

Also, Australia Network has, I believe, reappeared on the Dream Satellite for the moment.

Otherwise, you can pick it up direct with your own 1.8M dish - fine if you're in a villa or lanehouse, but pretty useless if you're in an apartment.

BTW, the search function on this site IS relatively hopeless, but just a quick 20-minute scan of the internal search results for, say, "AFL" (or perhaps directing a Google "advanced search" to this domain-name) would have found what you were looking for.

Happy fumbleathon watching.

What can I say AFL is exciting. If i wanted to see a hot potato get thrown around between a bunch of burly dudes with no necks like a REALLY mature age game of pass the parcel...well you get the pictures.

But thanks for the advice.

No chance of a bit of good grace 'cos you're getting twice as much of your preferred (ahem) "sport"?

Nah, didn't think so.

As predicted, no good grace or intelligent debate - purely insults from the illiterate and ignorant.

Hey - at least I gave you some info, angelus512 - more than your self-styled fellow AFL-lovers could be arsed to do.

Newtown doesn't exist, eh?

Feel free to go to a Saturday home game at Henson Park this coming season and tell any of the current Jets players that they don't exist.

Feck it, I'll save you the air-fare and just sort you out myself the next time I see you.

Inane comments from pencil-necked wooden spoon-winning bogans aside, can anyone put up any RATIONAL arguments against my belief that a sport that is popular in the more populous states:

Quote:
Rugby League States - New South Wales Queensland & Australian Capital Territory: Total pop. 10,878,967

Vs the AFL states - Victoria South Australia Western Australia Tasmania Northern Territory: Total pop. 9449643

AND has higher domestic viewership figures
Quote:
...of the top 100 programs of all types on pay TV in 2006, 73 were Rugby League. The NRL had eight in the top 10.

Should get an even go on Australia Network?

P.S. Spare me the BS about the higher ground attendance of AFL - we're talking about TV viewing here.
