| Post subject: Portal - Half Life 2 |
What an absolutely brilliant game. Short (about 7 hours for me but that's because my graphics card sucks and I had a lot of slow down) but just sheer class from beginning to end. The END. Not the end. Play it, you'll see!
You can get it through bittorrent. It took quite a bit of work for me to get it working, but if anyone downloads it, I'll be happy to post a how-to here.
I know for certain that Megs and Skyline, you guys will love this, but anyone else who enjoys games with a little lateral thinking plus a lot of humour should try this out.
Speedy thing goes in, speedy thing comes out.
And should there be any doubt, there is cake.
Get this game.
Get it now!
PS I actually liked this so much, I will buy it when I am in the UK. Then I will get a nice workhorse desktop and play it all again with a decent graphics card. It was THAT good. |

Similar in that it is a first-person-perspective 3d game, but that's it. It's basically a puzzle game, where you have to make your way through different rooms, solving the problems that each room design gives you.
To help you do this, you have a portal gun. You can shoot a blue portal into one wall, and a red portal into another wall, the just walk through the portals. So if there was a deep deep gap between wall A and wall B, the portal would just let you step through from one to the other.
But then in some rooms, you have switches which need boxes placed on them, gun turrets which need to be dealt with, and also some surfaces which you can't fire a portal on to. And then......well, let's just say that there is more to this game than you might think.
I can't recommend it highly enough. If you have any interest in computer games at all, you really must play this. |

Well, you have no weapon. but other things in the game have weapons, which they fire at you, and sometimes......well, you do have portals.
I don't want to give too much away. You don't get to kill anyone, but there is a whole heap of destruction at the end |

In the Orange box. you have HL2 Episode 2, right? So if you enjoy it, and haven't already played them, you have HL1. HL2 and HL2 Episode 1 to try out
Love the Half Life series, brilliantly crafted games. |

Yeah, I remember HL1 very well. Some of the most genuinely scary, tense and surprising moments I've ever had in a game.
I was vbery impressed when I picked up HL2 a few years back, to see what they had done in terms of NPC facial expressions. Really quite an amazing leap forward, considering what else was available at the time.
How far have you got in Portal? Got blue AND red yet? |

have to agree, portal is the funniest and msot innovative game i saw for a long time.
Unfortunatly it was over for me after 3 hours...
still i expect to see more.
episode 2 is the same as the rest of halflife. great styory , great characters , good graphics ...
and a friggin laodingpause every couple minutes.
still ican't wait to see episode 3, and see if the portal character will show up there.
to pass the time i will spent some more time with my weighted companion cube and Tf2 |

Dazza, I have to ask, and forgive me for this, but....did you get your cake? Or did you just get a little hot under the collar? If the answer is the latter, then....well, you always have choices in every situation |

without wanting to spoil the"fun" for the others...... The cake is fake....
the three heads are having quality time in their own relaxations chamber ....
i spent my mornings on the bus humming along to "i'm still alive" (i can send you TEH SONG if you want as mp3) while i think about solutions for the bonus levels
at least they keep you occipied for quite some time |

Yup. I get quite a few games from there that work, and they usually have the new ones right away. Got Conan 2 weeks before it came out and Halo 3 (which works online for some reason while my other copied games don't) a day before it came out.
Just picked up a working copy of the Orange box from the one on Beijing. |
