Hi Guys
Just wondering if anyone has taken DVDS back to Australia and what the customs situation is. I have read some frightening storys re the States. If anyone has had any troubles, how many DVDS did you have and what was the fine(if thats ok)

I second the above. If you're travelling with a partner (and want to keep the covers), just stick the covers in their luggage or mail 'em back. There's no law against having bogus DVD covers with pissingly funny text on 'em.
Aus Customs' policy is to only get wound up if you've got multiples of any title - i.e. it looks like you're stocking a store or something.
You might get a problem if they lumber you when you have something that's under a "no classification" in Oz - like Salo, Ken Park or something like that.
Once again, though, if it's just the one copy, they'll likely just confiscate and bin it. |

I recently returned to OZ after nearly 2 years in China. Took back approx 300 DVD's in my luggage. Removed all cardboard and had them in cases. No problem. Also sent back a couple of boxes via a shipping comany with a similar amount, again no problem.
The scanners at the airport are predominately looking for organic materials, so they are unlikely to pick up your booty of DVD's.
Of course should you get pulled up for a random inspection or you forget the bag of oranges in your suicase full of DVD's then thats another story.
By the way, during my time in China I had various relatives and friends visit and take back to Oz a great many DVD's and no one was once looked at.
I have since returned to China, just for interest.... |
