Post subject: tourist or working visa?

My partner and I are relocating to Shanghai in January and while we are there I would like to teach English - my question is, should I be looking for a job before I arrive in Shanghai (in order to get a working visa) or should I enter the country on a tourist visa, find a job when I'm there and then convert to a working visa....

All thoughts/opinions welcome!

If you're on a tight budget, get a job and visa sorted by your employer before you come. If you're on a teaching-holiday trip then come over on a tourist visa and have look around before you decide.

If you're one option 1, make sure your employer get you a "Z" (work) visa instead of an "F" (business) visa.

Also, have a look on this website (Search option on the left hand side of your screen) for more info on visa and starting of school terms in China.

Good Luck.

You'll have to leave the country again after finding a job that can sponsor you for the work visa. Assuming you are a citizen of NZ, you should have no problem simply going to Hong Kong for the day.
