Post subject: Super Bowl LIVE at Bubba's

Xin nian kuai le from all of us at Bubba’s Bar-B-Que and Saloon. Here’s wishing you and your families all the best for the coming Year of the Rat, which is supposed to be turbulent free and full of opportunities. This all starts on February 7, so if you’re watching our weather or the stock markets….don’t worry, ancient Chinese tradition says it will get better.

Holiday Note: Bubba’s will close for a few days during the holiday. Specifically, we will close early on Tuesday, February 5th (7 p.m.) and then remain closed for Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. Normal operating hours resume on Saturday at 11 a.m.

Before that, however, we will again host one of Shanghai’s premier Super Bowl parties. Last year we introduced Shanghai’s first ever home-grown halftime show: “The Best Damn Halftime Show in Shanghai.” I’ll be honest, it sucked and we ended up kicking the dancing girls out halfway through their show and turning up the game’s halftime show featuring, of all people, Prince (just to give you an idea of how bad our own show was).

Anyway, this year we will focus more on the food, and plan to send the current Year of the Pig out in style with a proper PIG PICK’N TAILGATE PARTY! 100 rmb at the door will get you access to our Texas-style soft-taco breakfast bar, featuring eggs, sausage, bacon, etc., along with whole smoked suckling pig and all the fix’ns to make yourself a breakfast that will last all day. We’ll have this open and available through halftime to complement drink specials throughout the game….25 rmb draughts, house pours, special drinks, coffee, etc.

Doors open at 6 a.m., first come first serve for seating….but if you’ve watched American football at Bubba’s…you know we do it family style with everybody sharing a slice of a table here and there.

And yes, after the game, we are still planning on meeting the Big Bamboo Drunks at the Hong Qiao Golf Course for 9 holes of some type of golf. The weather is supposed to slightly improve, so as long as there isn’t snow on the ground at the course, we’ll be heading to the first tee with our game faces on. If you want to join the Bubba’s side, just bring your sticks to the restaurant that morning. I’ll have a sign up sheet ready.

GONG XI FA CAI! See you at Bubba’s,

KJ

If someone wants to explain the rules, i might attend. Rules of this "game of gridiron" i mean. I know the rules to drinking.

Kick-off is 6PM Eastern if my math is correct.

Is the 100 at Bubba's required to get in the door, or for food only?

To get in the door. Kick-off here is usually around 7:15 a.m.

Too hard to separate people eating from non-eaters. Everbody will eat anyway at that time of day.....so 100 rmb to get in.

If you really don't want to eat and you pay to get in....don't worry, I'll by you a number or drinks to even it out.

For those who didn't make it last year, this event was really fun. The food was great and the drinks went down smooth!

As for the half-time show...Bubba put it best last year when he said, "It will be better next year." Perhaps not attempting this year was the best bet though.

A thought for the future Bubba...more TV's could be added upstairs. There's a lot of empty space that doesn't have a clear view of a TV.

See ya early Monday with all my pals!

We are putting a large screen one in the main dining room upstairs. There are two TVs in the poker room and one at the bar upstairs....so every room has a TV now except the bathrooms.

We could probably use them in there as well....it's gonna be packed.

Where's Bubba's? Is it close to any metro stop?

Also, KJ - I hear you're from Austin - is that true? I lived there for 3 years before coming here a month ago Smile

Cool. Yes, I am from Austin....South Side.

Bubba's is 2262 Hong Qiao Lu, just pick up any of the three main entertainment magazines and you'll find a listing/address in Chinese.

Line #2 (the extenension) runs about five blocks away from us. Take it to either of the last two stops.

It wasn't THAT Bad... or had I drunk too much by halftime?

Hey, thanks to everybody that came out to watch the game yesterday. I know it was crowded but seemed like everybody was having a good/great time. I'm rewatching the game now for the U.S. commercials.

Have a good CNY.

Was there a half time show this year or did you drop that all together.

Dropped it....instead I had "talking girls" help work the room and serve drinks...but I don't think any of the customers realized it so there wasn't much "hitting" on them.

you didn't miss much on commercials, they sucked. I watched it live from my house on Slingbox. Surprisingly got a good signal all day long....over 300kbps.
