| Post subject: Any foreigners found a job via 51job, Zhaopin or ChinaHR? |
Hi,
I just wondered if any foreigners on this site (or if you know any foreign friends) that have found a job (or even got an interview) by using: www.51job.com, www.zhaopin.com or www.chinahr.com?
I'm in the process of looking for a job in Marketing and know that it is all about networking/guanxi etc, but many people seem to say that these 3 sites are the main ones Chinese people use to find office jobs (of course there are others). But I have applied for a number of jobs and never get a reply from these three sites. So have any of you guys ever had any luck with these sites? or know any mates that have had any joy?
Maybe I should write a cover letter/e-mail in Chinese with my resume in Chinese. But when the job advertisement is in English I thought it is usually best to make your job application in English too. Maybe both an English + Chinese cover letter and resume would be the best approach.
What do you guys reckon?
Many thanks for any constructive opinions.
Sorry if this has alreay been asked but, I could not find anything after quickly using the search function on this site. |

I did. I found my current job through ChinaHR
Just a suggestion: you gotta write a cover letter in Chinese or else you'll never get a reply |

Jeez.
Do you know how many applications a position usually gets on these three sites?
2000!!! 2000 applications for one vacancy!!!
And there is no need to launch a resume in Chinese if the advertisement is in English.
Good luck to be chosen among 2000! |

^ just because you are only one of 20,000 doesn't mean everyone is as unqualified, some people are one in a million.
And yes there IS a need for a resume in CHinese if the hiring manager is Chinese...it makes it a lot easier for them to get a better grasp on who you are. Then again, you probably already have a cushy job with the government adding propoganda to BBS's across the internet eh? |

Thanks lababillarde and yu for confirming that it is possible for foreigners to secure a job via these 3 sites and that it does indeed help to send your cover letter/resume in Chinese.
Maybe there are 2000 applications for each vacancy, but if you don't buy a ticket you don't win the raffle
Maybe the headhunters are a better option to try first.
So Yu I believe you work for this site and must rub shoulders with many an expat, have you heard of (m)any other foreigners getting jobs through the 3 sites that I mentioned? How about anyone else on this site apart from lababillarde, have you found a job or heard of a friend who has got a job through these 3 ubiquitous Chinese recruitment websites?
Thanks again. |

I've got interviews resulting from posting on these sites, but ultimately I got my current job through a friend.
One thing to do if you haven't done already, if you see a job that you're interested in, other than applying via the website (51job or whatever else), also submit your resume via the company's own website.
I don't know how well the Chinese resume works, I have one but stopped updating it, been mainly using my English resume.
Networking is important here, but i'm sure you already know that. Go to events, forums and chat people up, you never know who will help you get a job next. |

I got my current job because I applied to either 51job or zhaopin (can't remember). The recruiter engaged by this company needed another senior position (not advertized) and needed almost immediate placement by a foreigner because the planned or selected individual had some issues which pissed off the hiring director. So kind of happened through those web-site ..
I will move into a new job in April (had two offers to choose from). Both of them tracked me down on linkedin, both job offers significant promotion and expat package. |
