| Post subject: Using Union Pay in the Philippines |
Has anyone used their Union Pay card at ATMs in the Philippines? According to some online sources, they are widely accepted, but I have only heard of travelers using them successfully in countries like Thailand and Singapore. I have a Union Pay debit card through China Construction Bank (RMB account) and am hoping to be able to use it to pull out pesos while I'm traveling in the Philippines. Any first-hand experiences? What are the conversion rates or ATM fees? |

Many Union Pay cards have this valid on in china crap on them. They actually work pretty widely. I've used mine in Korea and in some recent threads people have said they used in Thailand and the US. No idea about Philippines and I cannot remember what the fees were like.
I don't have a fancy Union Pay / Visa Debit just a standard China Merchant Bank Union Pay. |

You can always call your bank to confirm. |

Just got back from Philippines and in Manila did see Union Pay signs all over the place but did not try to use mine. One warning: In some Manila banks (airport) and in all of Boracay major credit card companies (Visa, MC Amex.....) only let you take out 5000 pesos a shot. Watch out for the service charges! Make sure you know what your bank charges you. May be better to change money there if you can. |
