| Post subject: web hosts .... china vs. the rest of the world |
so i recently had a handful of websites moved to a new host -- from godaddy to another american host. the sites work fine here except one. It appears to be blocked because i see it via a proxy server. No idea why it would be blocked !! i've been testing a mainland chinese host and the same(content) site works fine. basically, it's come to this --
i will have two domains for the same site, one for china (.cn), one for the rest of the world (.com). Is this crazy? The chinese host says to just put one site on his domain, and it loads fine everywhere. But i'm skeptical about that as well...
if that's the way it works out -- will everyone with an international website HAVE to host the thing in china? otherwise, you're blocked here and since china is a major net market now, you can't have that....
learning how to play the game.... |

You forget that the name of the game is to make money, not make it easier for you to circumvent their computer "intelligence" bureacracy. Think of the money that will be make by Chinese hosting services if every major international company had to mirror sites on the mainland...
BTW Which mainland site are you using, as I will most likely have to do the same thing in the near future... |

That was my point. Force'm to host it here. You want it to work on our machines? You purchase our machines. They've learned a thing or two from Microsoft.
As per my new host... I'm going to keep testing it before I make a public recommendation. A year ago I was telling everyone how great Godaddy was. Now I'm burdened with apologizing to my clients. |

UrgertC - if you can, let me know the details of your problem. Actually, just tell me the domain name(s), and I should be able to figure out the rest. Send me a PM if you wish. I've seen the problem before, but I need to confirm a couple things about your domain(s) first. |

One thing about hosting in mainland China is that you and your clients open yourself to regulation. technically, you need a license to be able to run your content from China.
We have been hosting a handful of domains on our server cluster in HongKong, where you are not required to have a goverment llicense to publish. If you are interested in more information about this drop me a PM. |
