| Post subject: China Merchants Bank online banking issue |
Hi - I have never been able to use China Merchants Bank's online banking. I can download the software program ok. When I tried to install it, I will get error messages in scripts of various symbols, neither in English nor Chinese. I have English version of Windows Vista (Home Premium) on my computer and use Vista's Chinese language feature to read or type Chinese characters, which works well with 99% of Chinese websites. I called CMB for technical support and they couldn't figure out what's wrong since I can't read the mystery scripts. The only suggestion I got from them is to have a complete Chinese language version operating system installed. I doubt that I want to do that. Does anyone have any trouble with the bank's online banking service? Any advice? Thanks a bunch. |

If you read the documentation (in chinese) it says that it is not compatable with Vista. The problem is not the East Asian Language support. (which Vista automatically installs anyway usually) The problem looks like the program itself is written using some specific unicode instead of using the proper language API.
I have only been able to use the web based online banking services which is good enough for most of my needs but I use my work computer when I have to do stuff like pay for taobao etc |

I've been using the CMB online banking software with English language Vista for almost a year so I can vouch for the fact that it's compatible. I think Kuldaen is right that the program is not written in proper Unicode so double check that the "Current Language Setting for Non-Unicode Programs" is set to Chinese (PRC). This is under the Administrative tab of Regional and Language Options. Apart from this, I'm not sure what else may be causing the problem. |

I had the similar situation. The OS that I use is English XP. My computer was OK for showing Chinese characters but had problems to install the CMB's software. |
