^Basically, read what you are downloading.
http://btjunkie.org/torrent/Marilyn-Manson-discograph/38084c5c1b1d8f6f 8d3e9ce8752aa8d0548cd15622fd

http://btjunkie.org/torrent/Marilyn-Manson-discography-14albums/323489 35e51e70c65950f5b0fb20448f3f551fffef71

If you look at the track listing for these torrents, it's pretty clear which ones are live or from a concert, since they are clearly labelled as such.

Having said that, you can still sometimes end up with a weird version which was not what you were after...if it's mp3's you're going after, there's nothing to stop you downloading a single mp3 from a torrent, checking it out and if it meets with your approval, you can grab the rest.

Also though, 9 hours for 220Meg of MM? Even for Shanghai, that seems slow, you should have been able to find something with at least 100 seeds....

^ Thx. I've been using scrape, but think I'm going to look around a while and see what I can find.

How do you grab a single track in the torrent? I don't see that as an option.

Dude, please.

Why wait for one of us to answer when zillions of people already asked this question elsewhere?

Google for it, answers are all there.

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&client=firefox-a&rls=com.ubuntu%3Ae n-US%3Aunofficial&hs=P1P&q=how+to+select+individual+files+in+azureus&b tnG=Search

You might also want to have a look at torrentfreak.com. Good resource regarding the PM you sent before.

Good luck.

Azureus is for Macs, no? I'm PC'ing it and using btjunkie or scrape at the moment. So I'm guessing that those don't allow single track selections? I'm also using utorrent.

I apologize this is elementary for you vets.

I figured it out, the option is on a secondary later pop-up box which pieces of the total torrent you want to download. Interesting.

Okay, how about high-def (BluRay) content for movies then? Cool

Tip: if you google for "filetype:torrent [search term]" google will return all pages that contain links to files of the type "torrent" and that contain [search term] on it.

Example:
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&client=firefox-a&rls=com.ubuntu%3Ae n-US%3Aunofficial&hs=KDo&q=filetype%3Atorrent+bluray&btnG=Search

Please kuaidi a case of beer to my premises. Wink

tks.

Azureus works in most platforms by the way. It used to be a very heavy but feature rich client, now it is much lighter but still pretty feature rich. I used to be a strong utorrent user but switched to Azureus now (also because there is no utorrent for linux).

^Hey HC, I didn't realise you made the switch to Linux. You were on Windows, right? How are you finding it?

The ubuntu distribution is very easy to install and get running.

Lappy came with Vista pre installed from dell in a single 160gb partition.

I split that up and now have dual but ubuntu and vista, but I use vista less and less.

I'm not saying Vista is bad by any means, it is pretty good BUT it is much heavier than ubuntu, plus the slow start up times, the poor multitasking and everything else that comes with windows.

All my windows applications can be run through a virtual machine on Linux.

One thing that is not so developed on linux yet is driver support but i managed to finally run my computer in dual screen so I have a linux screen and a windows screen, best of both worlds.

The community support is very strong, so far I couldnt not find the answers for my problems. That's a big plus.

Further, the ubuntu mirrors in china make it very easy to update the system (200k/s+ easily).

I'm running the beta version of ubuntu 8.04, latest version will be released in 14 days. For a beta it is very very solid. With the exception of Firefox 3 there is very little that goes wrong with this operational system.

I'd definitely recommend it to anyone that has the patience to re-learn some things and to research online to find answer to problems. It's not yet (perhaps a couple of versions away, meaning 1 year?) there for the casual user, but most definitely it is for anyone with a more solid IT background.

One thing you might be interested in doing is to download what the ubuntu folks call a "live cd": basically you can run ubuntu and see how it works without needing to install anything and just boot from your own machine. Very cool thing actually.

You can find the torrents for the latest live CD here.

http://releases.ubuntu.com/releases/8.04/

Another thing is the interface: gnome which is the graphical user interface that comes with ubuntu is very polished and the "eye-candy" is impressive.

Ah, forgot to mention: they also have a 64 bits version that kicks serious ass.

Great in-depth answer, thanks HC. For years now I've toyed with the idea of sing Linux, but am actually quite happy with Windows, so never saw the need to switch...thinking about it a little more now, having read your post.

What do you do if a 'source' of a torrent goes to zero?

I queued up a list of **** and am downloading one or two at a time and cycling the list, but one of the torrentz I wanted went to zero seeds / peers and looks like after several hours (18+) it's going to stay that way.

I'm guessing it's just a matter of go looking for the same thing from another site (the one that went tits up was from btjunkie)............

If you have no seeders it is not likely that you will be able to finish the file. Yes, you should try and find another tracker that has the same file on it (so that you can make use of the packets you already downloaded).

I actually installed Leopard 10.5.1 on to my IBM/Thinkpad, so I am running OSX no more lame Windows XP

My IBM hardware is compatible with Mac OSX; I just don't have EQ/CI enabled for my graphic card.

Where can you find 'album art' that does not come with a past torrent ?

I've got material (pics) for about 1/3 of my collection, but where to find the rest ?

It could be the case your computer mp3 player (itunes) can figure it out by itself.

I'll check that option.

Next question, I've got a couple hundred songs at the bottom of my iTunes library list that do not display information in the majority of the columns (shows: name and time, but no: artist, album, genre, etc. info.)

Why ? And how to fix / repair ?

I pulled the Chappelle Season down, the episodes are in .avi format - if I wanted to burn them to a disc (so I can play them on a dvd player -> projector -> big screen) do I need to convert the file ?

I'm googling for answers, but it helps to document this stuff here for future reference.

[I know we can IM, HC, but everyone else misses the dialog Wink]

What do you guys think about starting a 'recommended torrentz' thread, very much like YouTube It Up thread only with links to torrentz you think were really good downloads....

I've got one or two that were definitely 'home runs', curious if there's interest in starting this?

I think that posting links to torrents is sort of a no-go.

As for files having names: there is a service on the net (which is automatically available in most players such as Itunes) that identify the disc being played. You just need to be connected to the net.

If the music was not ripped this way then tracks will have to be named manually.

Hope that makes sense.

And yes, let's keep IM for stuff such as "HC please let me blow you for 200 kuai" hahahah Wink

I dont do men or butter balls (tm) and mentally challenged "people" (look at youknowwho25).

Judge Slaps TorrentSpy With $111M Damages

Grant Gross, IDG News Service
Thursday, May 08, 2008 9:20 AM PDT

A U.S. judge has ruled on a nearly US$111 million copyright-infringement decision against TorrentSpy.com, the BitTorrent peer-to-peer search site.

Judge Florence-Marie Cooper, of the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California in Los Angeles awarded the judgment to the Motion Picture Association of America, the MPAA announced late Wednesday. Cooper entered a default judgment against the operators of TorrentSpy in December, saying they had destroyed evidence related to an MPAA lawsuit against them.

Last May, another judge ordered TorrentSpy to keep server logs, user IP (Internet Protocol) addresses and other information in support of the MPAA's lawsuit against the site. Cooper ruled in December that TorrentSpy had ignored that order.

Valence Media, the company operating TorrentSpy, shut down the site in March. The company, based in the Caribbean, has filed for bankruptcy.

Cooper issued a permanent injunction prohibiting the company from further infringing any of the studios' copyrights. The judgment, of $30,000 per infringement, was for willful inducement of copyright infringement, contributory infringement and vicarious copyright infringement, the MPAA said.

"This substantial money judgment sends a strong message about the illegality of these sites," Dan Glickman, the MPAA's chairman and CEO, said in a statement. "The demise of TorrentSpy is a clear victory for the studios and demonstrates that such pirate sites will not be allowed to continue to operate without facing relentless litigation by copyright holders."

Hello all,

I've actually been using Azureus for about three years now to get my movies and software, but it hasn't been until I moved here that I started having problems. Here are the details.

If I download heavily seeded content (movie trailers with thousands of seeds and peers) I can get up to 250kB/s. But when downloading other things, I average 5kB/s. I've set a static IP address, opened the ports on the firewall, forwarded the ports on the router, set up a virtual server on the router, and disabled UPnP (because enabling it did nothing).

I followed this guide to set up my previous connections, and you guys should check it out if you need a newbie style, step-by-step guide:

http://www.zeropaid.com/bbs/showthread.php?t=17671

Anyhoo, here are specs:

Windows XP sp2
Azurues 3.0.5.2
Alpha router (router menu is in Chinese, yay! And portforward.com has no guide, woohoo!)
